  • Hey All

I haven’t chimed in for a while but I couldn’t resist. The Penny Marie is a Duchess also and I’ve never had a problem with heat. I’ve been on the freeway in 90 degree temps going fast and I think I got hotter “and more sunburned” than the car. She’s never overheated on me. I also have the big round hole behind the spare tire but no one…[Read more]

  • Continuing the process of stripping the body from the frame.
  • Spent the weekend in FL at the Pasco County FL Bug Jam in Dade City, FL. 625 VWs of all types and conditions. Only saw one TDr, a white one. Had several other kit cars including an Apha Romeo. And it was packed…over 5,000 folks in attendance. I got a free beer for being a Vet and scored some needed parts. Found a guy who cuts VW key blanks.…[Read more]

Believe it or not you have 3 TD members just south of you in the Stafford area – Rick – building his car now (just spent an hour with him last weekend checking out his cool rides and garage), Dean – just south of me with a running and driving example and myself with a car I restored about 12 years ago. Looks like we have a club…[Read more]

Thank all of you for your responses. The openings I have around the engine compartment are made by the way the body parts of the original kit fit together. I looked again and it seems that there is plenty of room for air circulation without the spare tire opening. Actually my car runs pretty cool, it takes it about three to four miles before…[Read more]

  • Now for the beginning of the process to strip the Spitfire body from the frame.
  • So, after pondering the different ways to convert my VW-based TD replica to a front-engined layout, I purchased the remains of a rusty Triumph Spitfire and had it delivered to…

  • I didn’t know the forum changed the way it’s done, sorry. If you look at ACTIVITY atop the web page here you might see my message where I was able to add a picture of the image button I was talking about. But unfortunately it doesn’t work the same as it did before this forum changed its format. Used to be able to simply select a file after…[Read more]

  • Hmm. Okay. So it shows only here in ACTIVITY…? Anyway… picture is of the message reply showing where the Insert Image button is located. Painted with blue spot to highlight that.
Seems like that method requires you to use an online (web address) picture. But don’t quote me on that, I just now realized this is all different from the old forum…[Read more]

  • Bob, I’m still trying to figure out how to download pictures. I don’t see an image button with mountains and a sun.

  • LOOKING FOR A LOCAL TD CLUB. In the Northern or Western Virginia area. I live in Franconia but have a fish camp in Front Royal. Hope to meet others with TDs. Lee

  • As noted above, my TDr flies in the face of the accepted VW engine bay practices.

The primary purpose for sealing the engine compartment is to separate the hot end of the engine (the cylinders and  exhaust) from the cooler intake side of the engine.

I have the engine cooling tin in place. But I made no attempts to seal the engine c…[Read more]
