Greetings All
Well, after lots of headaches and work, I finally got Eliza Jane to the point where I could take her out for a spin. I still don’t have the headlights, gauges, switches, or the horn hooked up but I have the brake lights and that was good enough for me.
Last Friday afternoon, I gave Eliza Jane a good scrub and shine for the first…[Read more]

This sales pitch appeared recently on my local Craigslist:
So why you should you buy these cars? What about those times when your sitting around at the end of the day with nothing to do? Well now with these cars you’ll have a reason to get out in the garage and have some fun. With these cars you’ll feel a new sense of purpose! Here’s just a few…

That’s it. I got one at a junk yard a few years ago for $5 or $7. Bit of a hunt, but they’re there.
The offset is good as well.

The tube is 2″ inside diameter, unless I’m mistaken. A 2.25″ hole would be a fairly snug fit, while a 2.5″ makes for easy installation.
Paul, I was going solely from my experience on my early FF and my 69 pan which had the original battery mounting tabs removed. The rear shelf height could also vary from one kit manufacturer to another, which…[Read more]

Per my assembly manual, I am supposed to drill a 2-1/2 inch hole with the center of the hole 2-1/2 inches from the outer edge of the seat base. But the Fiberfab manual says to locate the seat base and drill a pilot hole through the front end of the seat base and straight back into the body tub. But both assembly manuals say drill a 2-1/2 inch hole…[Read more]

I don’t disagree with Kent. (Don’t you love that? It probably means my next sentence is where I’m gonna disagree! 😈 )
But if you put it under the seat, your best approach is to use the standard VW battery mount.
That’s how my Duchess is set up. And as I noted above, there is plenty of room between the battery and the inner side panels…[Read more]

I think Eddy is right. Too much worry. The Beetle’s original design dates back to the 1930s and oils likely weren’t as good back then, so perhaps there was more need to worry about engine failure due to overheating back then. Today’s oils are likely a lot better, particularly the synthetic ones. Apparently today’s oils can stand the heat. Th…[Read more]

a problem with dual single throat carbs is that the number 1 and number 3 cylinders run lean at idle because of the intake timing. the timing is more even if 1 and 3 are on a common throat and 2 and 4 on another. also a single two barrel is considered easier to synchronize than two individual carbs two feet apart! The crossfire manifold does a…[Read more]

That center mount would give individual, equal length runners for a 48 IDA – but would not allow you to use a factory alternator/generator stand nor shroud. I’m not sure what it’s application would be, other than drag racing…
I modified my Scat shroud to add the vanes, thermostat and Hoover bit.

I would like to try a manifold like this one though!http://www.headflowmasters.com/the-cheater-single-carburetor-vw-manifold.html#.V5zMrhOgBPY I think it would need some kind of heat to be a good runner from cold engine to hot though!

By the way, I recommend the dual ict’s over any single carb on stock or nearly stock volkswagens. My engine never ran so good and there is no concern about getting heat to the carb like there is on centermounts. most heat tubes on Volkswagens are long since plugged with carbon anyway and those long runners are way to cold for the fuel to stay…[Read more]
