In the hope of stimulating (and perhaps complicating) your design process, it seems to me that a really great aftermarket hardtop for a roadster without rollup windows should deal with the window problem. Otherwise, you will still have to hassle with side curtains. That’s why I was thinking about some kind integrated foldup, liftup, swingup doors…[Read more]

Since I’ve been thinking about hard tops myself, I was happy to make inquiries. There have been some very nice tops in the past. Too bad there aren’t any around, now.I’m thinking of ways to make one myself. Still on the drawing board…Maybe a winter project.

Going to have a go at the site changes tomorrow morning, Sunday June 19. Expect the site to be offline and/or just a bit wonky from 5-6am until maybe noontime.

Have fun guys. Wish I could be there. Safety Fast!
Schu: It’s easy if you have a decent machine and gas and get someone else to set the MIG amps and speed up for you. I beat myself up trying the gas-less flux cored wire. My welds were weak and ugly – an embarrassment. Now, with CO2, I’m almost proud of them.

Thanks Steve, for researching the fit issue. It looks like it is 3″ too wide and 14″ too long for my FiberFab. I suppose that it could be a starting point but $600 plus shipping would be an expensive guinea pig.I was inspired by the various Jeep aftermarket hardtops with lift out roof panels and easy on doors. Sadly, there are just not enough o…[Read more]

We’ll see if Jimmy shows up, Dale. Then ask him.
Yes, Allen: turn wrenches, then also burn meat and drink a couple cold ones. -

Yeah! BEER. Beer is food.
Sorry I can’t be there and enjoy it all. You folks have a blast. Burn meat and drink beer. 😛 -

If so he must of changed the front bumper since Carlisle. It was one piece – like this one much better.

Overall, I think it’s a nice design. I like the lines and windows. I think it would look good on a TDr.I do have my doubts though as to whether the stock roof would fit a TDr.From the photos, it looks like their windshield is taller than a TDr and so to get it to rest on the windshield there would be a large gap at the rear. Also, it looks to be …[Read more]

Whoever built your TDr MAY have used carpet glue to hold down the carpet in the tunnel access area. The carpet in my Fiberfab has a separate carpet section just for the tunnel access. Not knowing how yours was made, you may have to remove one of the seats to access yours. Good luck and keep us posted.

Maybe if they hog out the backside you’ll have a shot.
But a word of caution: The typical MWS wire wheels are made to fit on a hub with a 4.5-inch bolt circle. The slightly wider VW pattern puts the studs and nuts in the way of the wheel itself. That was Royal’s experience, anyway. There may be wire wheels made to fit over a 130mm circle or… -

Update: I heard from MWS and they want me to return the hubs. I sent them some pictures and they were surprised that I was having an issue. Even though I got these back in January they are still standing behind there products. I am impressed.
