Royal wrote:As usual, Kent knows some s*** about these engines. It remains pressurized by… -

Which is better, Ford or Chevy? I’ve owned over 30 air-cooled VWs over the years, worked in a couple VW shops part time, and in general agree with Roy’s points. In the years before synthetics, most street VWs were recommended to use Castrol 30w and avoid multiblends due to heat tolerance (air-cooled engines run much hotter than water-cooled).…[Read more]

No answers or questions yet, just watching the conversation and pondering the problem. I was planning to look at a few other things this weekend and next week and will add this to my list.stephenhouser2015-11-20 08:01:55

Books have been written addressing this well discussed, seemingly simple question.
But, it’s not a simple answer. So let me (try to) confine my answer to the peculiarities of air cooled (VW) engines. It is very important that you understand that our engines were designed some 75 years ago and oil is much different now than it was. Synt…[Read more] -

Okay, I may have an answer for you re the disappearing cursor.
If you merely hover over the text pane when starting a topic, you won’t see anything. The cursor only appears when you actually click in the box. That’s pretty standard operation for web sites.Does that describe your experience? -

I agree about $4 to $5k is a likely selling price for that car. I was kidding (a little) about offering $1,000.
John, my TDr is also titled as a 1952 TD. But that has nothing to do with how “original looking” it is. Some states title kit cars as the car they replicate. Most do not, but some do. I got mine titled that way a bit differently.I guess… -

A few months ago at a car show I parked next to a ’62 Pontiac Catalina used in the movie Selma, owner has paperwork about that. Was painted for the movie and used for scenes done inside the car, requiring a door to be removed (later put back on).
I could see paying 5 grand for that MGTDr. When getting mine I was considering a London Roadster first… -

Well, I was going to see if I could get a more complete error statement and now it doesn’t show when I try to get it. Whether that means it’s fixed or just a quirk of how the error happens is probably anybody’s guess.
What I was wondering is if that lost caret thing might be what the other people were having trouble with. Maybe thinking they needed… -

Well, I’m going to disagree with Paul. This isn’t true for all, but a properly built TDR can be extremely “original looking.” And define “rudimentary car knowledge.” About 98% of the public doesn’t even know what an MG TD is, let alone the difference between an original and a replica. The DMV has my car titled as a “1952 MG TD” and I’ll bet…[Read more]

Will share this with Stephen. Not sure what that error message means.
Also pretty sure the disappearing cursor is not something the applicaiton can do anything about. I’ve occasionally seen that happen on web sites. I’ve also had it happen in Microsoft Office products. -
Paul Mossberg replied to the topic Replica For Sale — Summary in the forum General Discussion 9 years, 8 months ago
Oh yeah…
And it is NOT “original looking.”Neither is my Duchess, even tho it uses a true TD grill and many other true TD bits and pieces. That’s not a knock on TDr’s. It’s a simple fact. Just about anyone with some rudimentary car knowledge can distinguish an original TD vs a TDr.PMOSSBERG2015-11-19 10:35:50
