I just think it’s cool to own something so unique. You own a “real” MG TD, people look at it and say “Wow, what is that?,” and the owner says, “Well, it’s a 1952 MG TD!” And they say “cool” and they move on, because what more can you say? But when you own an MG TDr, people look at it and say, “Wow, what is that?” and you say, “Well, it’s a 19…[Read more]

johnsimion wrote:can spend $3000 sight unseen. You can’t spend $30,000 without seeing the car first.A very good point there, and something I had thought about. I don’t think I could have done it if not a car.I was actually thinking of a 2nd motorcycle when the replica car idea caught my attention. TBH it’s something I thought years and… -

Well, I too bought my TDr through eBay sight unseen, although I was the only bidder and didn’t pay that much. In fact, the car turned out to be quite nice for what I paid, and all it really “needed” was a set of new tires. I could have just polished it up and used it as-is, but the seat was too high and too close to the wheel for my comfort,…[Read more]

They’re asking the same for theirs that I paid for mine, or rather bid up to, in the ebay auction.
The price ranges confused me when I was looking to buy, but all I was going to get was something at the lowest end that was drivable as-is and still looked okay too. That and tow home myself without going more than a few hundred miles away.Found I… -

What is really interesting is the idea that someone, somewhere, would consider buying a kit car as an “investment.”
(But not understand–somehow–that asking prices aren’t necessarily selling prices).Good find, John. -

Two things that are unique to the London Roadster is the emblem by the antenna and the side gas fill on the driver’s side. Most of the London Roadster owners here have steel chassis , not the VW pan. Mine is also a 1986.

Not sure this answer will apply to your FiberFab, but…on a Classic Roadsters Ltd. Duchess:
The fenders bolt to the front bumper support bracket, to the rear fenders and there is a bolt on each side of the line between the body side panels and the front trunk side panels.
For the rest of the length of the fender, there are rivets every few… -

One option if you’re worried about painting over the welting is to loosen the bolts and remove the existing welting. Have them paint the car and when done and cured etc., reinstall the welting and tighten up the bolts.

When I painted my MiGi I disassembled it. Primary reason was so I didn’t paint the welting between the pieces. I wet sanded the fiberglass and used an epoxy primer, enamel and clear coat.

Great concept, but the people who tried to drive it were terrified of the engine’s ability to go over 44,000 rpms, and since the horsepower increased the faster you went there was effectively no top end. All that on ’60’s tires and brakes. Yikes!

If you look at a TD the back wheels are a little forward of center. But that car for sale has them too far.

Appears to be London Roadster.
I think all the Lafer doors were conventional, hinges forward and handles back (although radio antenna does make this one look a little like hinges on passenger side).Thought I would add to this, I didn’t realize some of these cars didn’t have the radiator cap and emblem piece until looking more at this one and seeing… -

Yeah, if you refer to build manual you’ll see they have you cut the factory Pinto leaf spring just forward of the mounting perch of the axle, then taking the rear section of spring, turning it over, and mounting it backwards. A bizarre installation that holds up the car but handles like crap.
