Thanks Allen. I guess that’s one of the few brain cells I didn’t kill. Short of taking the carb off and rebuilding, it’s the only carb cleaner I ever had any confidence in.

Yep. I remember it and used is a lot. It was Gumout and you disconnected and plugged the outlet from the fuel pump and hooked the can directly to the carb inlet. The instructions used to say to work the accelerator a few times to clean the accelerator pump. I haven’t seen the kit anywhere and have been thinking of making a kit out of a brake…[Read more]

The SAGA continues —
Thanks Kent for your help on the phone — Roy and I were stumped over valve clearance numbers that seemed to change from time to time with no reason. Roy discovered that the valve rocker adjusters had a ball with a flat spot that should have been in contact with the valve stem, but was NOT during some of the measurements. … -

Hi guys,
At first I didn’t know where to find it & I remembered that a hidden little neighborhood station had a little sign out advertising ‘racing fuel’ so I started there- no luck. Then I went to my local Chevy dealer & asked the service rep. if he knew. I found a place 20 miles away which I used for a while. Now with the publicity that ethanol… -

Mike
Welcome to the club. I joined a couple of weeks ago and I love it here. The advice is worth it’s weight in gold and the people here are worth more than that!I love the color combo. I drive a Duchess as my daily driver with a similar color scheme. Black fenders with a grey body and burgundy interior. I like the look of yours much b… -

Bill, I use pure-gas.org to find my non ethanol gas. It’s been pretty reliable here in NC.

Where do you find ethanol-free gas, Larry?

Hi guys,
I’ve been off line for several years now & finally had time to log back on. In doing so, I noticed that all of you Allison owners are having the same problem. Me too. I blamed Sea Foam for dissolving the glue that held the tank together but realize that it was probably the same effect you experienced- that being the effect of gasoline on… -

Jack,
Bolt-on valve covers are notorious for leaking. The factory-type, held on with the spring bail, seal much better… and don’t even try the rubber/neopreme valve cover gaskets. Nothing seals as well as the factory-type cork gaskets. The reasons for the vented valve covers are:(1) higher RPM VW engines tend to build up crankcase pres… -

The SAGA continues…
Last evening, Roy called and asked if my DELLORTO carbs were 45’s or 48’s and I could not remember, so I went out to look……and found oil all over the right back bumper and engine cowling…and I was down a little over a quart in the crankcase.By the way, the carbs are Dellorto DRLA 45’s..I wiped up as much oil as I could… -

back homeMy guy Mike’s out with shoulder surgery. Steve told me to try again next Monday: “He might man-up and come in.”This just about guarantees there’ll be no Bridget at Carlisle. Ah well. Sooo close. -

Thanks. PVC has many uses around the home & office. I left the bumpers off. I might put on the rear one though just as insurance. It’d be no good in a rear-end crash, but it does catch the spare tire if the clips holding it come loose.

Buttoned up for towing–maybe tomorrow a.m. she’ll head to the muffler shop. There I hope I’ll get
1. coolant hard lines, front to back–plus a tricky J-bend on the driver’s side to meet the top hose from the engine.2. Full exhaust–there’s a 2 1/4-in ID glass pack in the car now and the old Suby pipes as well. I need the new rig to be shorter by… -
