As far as color….
Purely my opinion/thoughts, and I debated color a long time. It’s a personal decision!Silver (actually gray) was the original TD wheel color and goes with virtually any color car.Black makes the wheels “disappear” and focuses attention on the hubcaps/trim rings.White seems “Hey, look at me!” — and seems a bit teenage or so… -

yea right!!
The last time I used the wood lathe on metal was when I cut down the aluminum mounting flange for my Flat Four steering wheel — that ‘only” took an hour and took the point of of the sacrificial wood-turning skew chisel…I think I’ll pass on the Rondel project… those domed plastic inserts are starting to look like a pretty good choice… -

Jack,
if you wanted to, you could cut a nicely centered 2″ hole in the cap using your wood lathe on super slow and a sharp turning tool. I doubt that it would take more than a few minutes for all 4/5 wheels. -

Ed, I like the MG medallions — they give that “understated elegance” look
Hey Kent,I think I agree that drilling a perfectly centered 2″ hole in the hub cap and then attaching those Rotel-style caps would be too hard — and I do have a drill press but not necessarily the talent and patience to “get it perfect.”Those domed center logos look really… -

That’s a pretty cool van. Thanks for sharing.I still have the plans for a Phoenix Van built on a VW bus chassis. The plans were ordered from a Popular Science magazine back in the 80s. They were in a manila envelope under the rear seat of the VW 76 Transporter I bought back in 89. I’m at work now but I’ll check to see if the plans are a Brubaker…[Read more]

Though I didn’t roll the car out to get wider views, here’s a couple pics of my hubcaps and trim rings. As I said, I was going for somewhat subtle on the MG logo due to its size…
I also took some measurements of the MGB/Midget Rostyle-type center caps, for MGBs or Midgets:I initially purchased a new set of four, intending to put them on the… -

I’ll try to dig out one of the MGB center caps tomorrow to measure it,
in addition to domed caps seen on eBay that are used to replace the center of them.… -

Thanks Paul. I ordered 4 of the no-logo flat hub caps. I’ll post the center dimensions once they show up.
Hopefully someone can post the MGTD center cap dimensions and that would give us the rest of the story.–Jack -

Lest anyone mis-interpret Kent’s post above, yes IM’s were originally on VW pans, back in the 80’s. They are now on custom built chassis. And can you say stiff? The jacking instructions note one lift point, under the rear door edge. Jacking there will lift both wheels off the ground.Bill, the car will not fit. It’s three bay garage, with a cut out…[Read more]

I agree Paul, they are the finest of the 356 replicas.
For a while, back in the 70’s at least, you could buy the complete Intermeccanica bodies, completely assembled, wired, etc. ready for installation on your running gear. Modify the VW pan, bolt them on, and then install the seats and carpet, and you were done…Even then, they were… - Load More
