the door latch arrived from MG Magic and I installed it and shimmed up to latch completely. I’m much happier knowing my passenger won’t be falling out.
AND my rear-end support bushing arrived from Rick Drake (he’s got only one more. Chevette guys?) in Washington state. (425-742-4122)So up on jacks and pull that pesky rear-end…
Yep that rubber…[Read more]

An update….I replaced the front bushing with a new one and also the bracket that holds it. I made a new shift rod with an adjustable rear fitting. Also replaced the rear coupler rubbers and installed a grade 8 3/8 bolt in place of that screwy thing with the screw going through it. I cut an access hole in the tunnel to make it easier to remove…[Read more]

Here’s some removable steering wheel hardware. Note that most of these weld to a 3/4 inch center shaft.http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Shop/Oval-Track-Steering-Wheel-Quick-Releases/15.html

I made my hood support from a fiberglass driveway marker, a Bimini top deck hinge and a short piece of pipe with the end hammered flat and drilled for the Bimini screw. I glued the FB rod into the short pipe using JB Weld.Bimini hinge looks like this.http://www.marinepartdepot.com/ststdehiwire.html

All thing emmision have been removed from the engine. The Weber carb really makes a lot of difference. I had to search around to find a hot lead for the electric choke. I removed the extra coils from the front springs and I can now see over the hood. Speaking of hoods, mine opens from the passenger side but I don’t have a hood support…[Read more]

Guys, I was hoping someone else might take it on this year. But whoever ends up doing the thing, everyone on site ought to start weeding through your pics looking for likely shots. More pixels is better. And think about background. And think about maybe something other than the standard 3/4 shot from standing height. Different angles, closeup on a…[Read more]

Dashboard, gauges. There is much to learn, grasshopper.
First lesson is this: follow your bliss. The TD originally came with a speedo and tach, each near five inches in diameter, plus a brass/chrome center cluster containing an Amp gauge and then either an oil pressure or combo oil pressure/water temp gauge. These had a blue or greenish tint… -

Ok, Ill look into those two brands. And you guys must have a proper dash board, mine only has 3 “ometers” in the middle with no frame around them. I will be getting a chunk of mahogany soon and making a new one though so does anyone know of any diagrams for layout of instruments and switches etc?

VDO Vision series black faced with chrome bezels are also common and it’s what I have although I prefer the look of the white faced gauges. I have Speedo, tach, oil press, oil temp, fuel, amps and volts. In addition, I have idiot lights from alternator (belt broken alert) and some folks have the oil pressure light also. Some rainy day, I’ll pr…[Read more]

For a VW-based TDr the instruments/gauges typically are speedo, tach, fuel, oil press, oil temp and amp. My gauges are from Classic Instruments which, I believe, came with the kit.
