I’m not familiar with that kit but it sure is pretty.
Why not bring it to the Auto & Air Show in Virginia Beach? What are the plans for your Allison TD? -

What type of paint did you use? I have single stage red that the local paint shop made up for me. Paint, reducer and hardener get mixed 4:1:1. Supposed to spray it on but I’m going to do a test roller application Sunday. Gbaby’s bday party tomorrow. He’s a whole 1.

Before starting Part 5 of Building Moneypenny, I took care of the front end problems EXCEPT for final fit. Decided to paint the fiberglass repair before the final fit. I got a quart can of paint with MGTD Red written on the lid. Took the can out last evening and shook it up and heard nothing. Guess the paint hardened since 1984. Opened the can and…[Read more]

Hey! I have one of those albeit WITHOUT the reflector. It came in a box with the kit. I think the one I have has an MG logo on it bit not sure. I’ll have to pull it out and check tonight when I get home.

I don’t believe this is an MG specific part.
Flared exhaust tips were big on American fifties customs. Like this:But I’ve never seen one with a reflector built into it. -

Must be the reflector that makes it worth $60.

Sorry Roy – I guess I am not cool – I always kind of liked those on a hot rod – might look good if the pipes stick out straight – most VW’s don’t unless using the standard exhaust.

Moss Motors sells one similar, as I recall, but I don’t think it has a reflector on it..
I agree that they’re ugly, but based on the length of the tailpipe they could serve the useful function of keeping the corrosive exhaust fumes off the rear bumper… -

If you sand off the paint along the top of the tunnel just behind the shifter, you will see where the shift rod bracket is welded to the top of the tunnel with I think 6 welds. It may have been riveted rather than welded. I did both with mine. Here’s the link to my photo albums and you will see what it looks like.
As… -

Another question, do I have to completely remove the shift rod to install the new bushing? It looks to me like I can grease up the rod and slip the bushing on to the rear of the rod and inch it up to the front where it belongs. The inspection cover in the front of the frame pan is behind some of the body work and I don’t think the rod will come…[Read more]

OK, so last night I unbolted and removed the shift lever and I discovered that the bracket that is inside the tunnel that holds the plastic shift rod bushing isn’t fastened to the tunnel. It seems to me that it should be welded to the tunnel. How am I going to get everything back together after replacing the bushing if that bracket is loose in…[Read more]

The fuel sender only fits one way, those five screw fittings are not equally spaced.I don’t have a VW tank in my Duchess…but your set up sounds correct. I suspect the “bowl” at the bottom of the tank provides a reserve beyond the gauge reading empty.

Ed, I have had the laptop cases on both doors of MiGi since you first saw her. They work well but look just a bit funky. I guess not too bad though if you didn’t notice.

Thought about doing it. There is a nice hollow in the doors. In my case I had stock (Moss)-looking panels made with some “give” on the inside so the junk in the pockets could bulge inward & out of sight.
You could make much deeper storage by incorporating an old (or new) laptop carry case into the panel. The depth is about right and the laptop… -

After several back and forth emails MG Magic doesn’t carry the inner support bracket. However…the did send me the engineering drawing for the Z bar bracket used on the CMC kits. As for my bracket, I ended up just cutting off the slotted tab piece off one of the brackets and re-welded it in the correct position. Paint drying tonight and I’ll…[Read more]
