My kit is a CMC I believe. You may recall seeing Chevettes with v8 conversions, although its been many years since I’ve seen a Chevette in any form. the v8 conversions were fairly common, the rear axle was the next weak point and I’ve seen an s-10 conversion useing the Chevette coil springs, mounts, etc. I was hopeing to find a complete…[Read more]

Do you know who made your replica? I just put a GM 60 degree V6 in place of a Chevette engine. From the space around my engine, it looks like a V8 might have fit.

When reading the posts on the Dashboard, I went back to the 2009 and 2013 Bridget topics. So, my BCW Chevette based MGTDR is based on Bridget? My fenders, etc. may have been made from forms created with Bridget’s body parts? There is very little information on the front engine BCWs. Are most panels the same as the VW panels? Can we put toge…[Read more]

Being as those mirrors are known to fall off in hotter weather, I would try to gradually heat the area and get behind it with some fine wire, fishing line or something along those lines to slice through the adhesive. Carefully. Glass is fragile.

I suggest a heat gun, on medium, with heat applied to the front of the windshield directly in front of the mirror tab. Be sure to keep the mirror mounted (need the weight). Hopefully the whole thing will fall off.

Hey folks-
I just acquired my car and have found that the windshield mounted rear view mirror is a pain in the neck and creates a significant blind spot when driving. I would like to remove it and replace it with a dash mount. Anyone have any suggestions on how to do that with out damaging the glass?

Ah now we’re having fun!
I had very good going with the Minwax Helmsman polyurethane over a product called Pelucid, which was spendy, but very strong and hard. The dash looks about as good today as when it was first done—and that’s saying quite a bit, especially if you look at how the rest of the car has weathered…

Reviving my own thread from over a year ago. I’ve started building a new dashboard. Why I’m doing this during Maine’s short “driving season” is beyond me, so I’m just going with it. What follows are a series of pictures along the way. Enjoy.
First off… Oh my, what have I done! Look at all those wires.
Always handy to keep your reading…[Read more]

The SPAMmers continue to sign up. To combat this a little bit, I’ve added a second security question to the signup form that needs to be answered to register for the site. If you are trying to sign up and the answer is not evident, pop @pmossberg or myself @stephenhouser an email at webmaster@tdreplica.com and we will get you account sorted.

Thanks Paul
The Chevette has some major differences from the Pinto based car. My plan is to lower and extend the front suspension and lower and mount a different rear axle probably an s-10 the engine trans I have is a 1981 350 4 speed from a Camaro. The front will sit about 12″ ahead of the radiator. The front suspesion I want to use is from an…[Read more]
