Originally, my switch was located in the dash, but I have opted to put in a dash plate which got rid of the ignition switch hole.
I have spot for it in the steering column, but can’t find or figure out what should go inside the column. I know there ought to be some V-Dub fans out there who could instantly point me in the right direction.

Not sure if this helps at all. There are some options here, but they don’t look exactly the same to my eyes. As for measurements, they usually reply pretty quickly via email.

To answer the question here:
The variable resistor lets you know the range of resistance between the two.

When I first purchased the car it had these hexagonal cut outs fitted between the gauge bezel and dash. I had to remove the gauges to take them off.
