Guys:
69 days till I head back to Florida and visit with my TD (Mrs. Peel). I checked with my buddy and his caretaker has been starting her for me. So hopefully we will not being spending much time at the mechanic shop this trip.
I’ve got to install some new toys (tonneau tops and wheel knockoffs), give her a good polish and wax. And then fun, fun, fun…..till Mrs. Z takes the keys away.
Gives me somthing to look forward to…….watch out Gregg here we come.

Nice place the villages, been though there doing auto transports.
October 6, 2009 at 1:41 pm #239863Starting the car is a good idea. But if that can’t be done and you have to store it for a few months:
Run all the fuel out…until it’s dry. Sta-bil will also help in the short term and you can leave the fuel in it.The methanol in today’s fuel eats up the 1970’s era carb guts. It’s horrible what today’s pump gas is doing to the fuel systems.
Next, invest in a Battery Tender. I tried a new C-Tech, but it died in less than a month. My 3 Battery Tenders are several years old.
October 6, 2009 at 3:01 pm #239864Thanks for the advice:
I added Sta-Bil to the gas before I left Florida. I have him warming it up monthly and driving it up and down the driveway.

October 6, 2009 at 7:08 pm #239866I’ve had a Battery Tender on my MG for about 10 years. And one on my 65 Satellite for two years. Never a problem.

October 6, 2009 at 8:37 pm #239867Mel, what is the actual date so I can mark my calendar.
What is a good brand of battery tender to use? I have one (cheap one) on my boat that seems to have held up, never had a problem in the past four years, but I don’t know if it’s the tender or the solar unit that is keeping my battery up. I will not use a solar panel on the car. Any recommendations on a tender would be appreciated.
Thanks,
October 6, 2009 at 8:54 pm #239868James,
Mark (pinkmg) and I were referring to the brand name “Battery Tender“
I use the Battery Tender Junior on both cars (the MG and my 65 Plymouth).

October 6, 2009 at 9:01 pm #239869And since it is in the same thread…I also swear by Sta-bil.
Both cars get it.
My snow blower gets it to. Even though I run it until it’s dry at the end of the winter season, there is always residual gas left in the system. So the last tank full of the season gets a shot of Sta-bil.
I put it in the gas can too.

October 6, 2009 at 10:21 pm #239870Thanks Paul,
Next time I am on the boat I’ll check to see what that one is. I think it was made by Deltran, I seem to remember the name, the label has changed a bit over the years. I did get it on seasonal clearance about four years ago at a marine supply. I’ll use the Sta-bil, but not on my snow blower since we get maybe a 1/64 of an inch of the stuff . Sorry didn’t mean to get us off topic.
Mel, 68 days!! When you get there be sure to volunteer to go out for groceries, one item at a time , plus the trips to Greg’s.
October 7, 2009 at 10:13 am #239871James:
We should be back in Florida on 12/15. I like you idea about food shopping (one item at a time), works for me.
Greg:
Thanks for the nightly cruise till I get back.
