    @royal

I just had breakfast with, and was am trying to convince Happy Jack that the Carlisle attendees would rather see his 2332cc VW BCW than Abby, his near perfect 1600cc Fiberfab.  (and Abby really is very near perfect)

His BCW is a bit rough compared to Abby, but most TDr’s are.   We all have some warts. But really, isn’t it a lot more fun looking at a truly different project car than a completed car.

    How ’bout you?
And wouldn’t it be fun to see a 2332cc TD in the Autocross?
I think that with just a bit of member coaxing, Jack could be convinced to bring the BCW, run it in the autocross, and cement his place in the TDr hall of fame.
Post and tell Jack what you think.  (His BCW is really pretty darn nice.  Jack will admit to being a somewhat anal perfectionalist.)

I know I would rather see the 2332cc but just making it there to Carlisle would be the goal.

I would like to take run in that car and feel the difference between my 1641 and his

We saw Abby in Virginia Beach, right?

Sounds like it’s the BCW’s turn!

Thanks Roy — nothing like egging on the crowd….!!!!

Abby (Yellow and brown FFII 1600cc) is “looking good” and all she needs is the new Tonneau cover (should be done and installed by end of week)  and the new center caps on the wheel covers to be ready for a trip to Carlisle.

So why take the easy way out, why not  shift gears and push hard to get the Big Block Red BCW on the road and somewhat reliable & trailer it up to Carlisle.

Right now, the steering column is out awaiting a new bearing and bushing, wiring is a real mess — PO used several rolls of black electrical tape to make sure the lamp cord and wire nuts he used to wire the car stayed tight — so wiring needs at least a little attention…have to reroute the throttle cable so that the car does not rev up when the clutch is pushed in (PO ran the throttle cable through the clutch cable shortening loop…)

Not to mention putting the seats back in, getting some minimal gauges hooked up and then running the car to see how hot-blooded it is going to be.  But all this is doable I guess.  If Ed can completely redesign his BCW’s fuel system, drive train, cooling system and who knows what else, I should be able to run some wires, fix the steering and get the seat position set to allow me to push in the (HEAVY DUTY) clutch as well as see over the steering wheel…

    …stay tuned…

I don’t have the creative writing skills of an Ed, but I should be able to chronicle my Herculean efforts in getting the Red BCW (Emma) ready for a trip to PA in May

I know the BCW will fit a towbar — I’ve seen it on one… So, there’s other ways than trailering it to get it to Carlisle…  🙂

But, I agree that driving it that distance is likely not a good plan…

    Good job guys!

I just talked to Jack and after cursing me out for “egging on the crowd” admitted that he is now in Adm Farragut’s “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead” mode with Emma and
“Carlisle or Bust” as his mantra.
Could we possibly see a Bridget and Emma showdown at high noon on the Autocross track?

It’s not out of the question. But I’m still going on the assumption that Bridget will not be ready. Working to prove myself wrong.

Ah…peer pressure is a wonderful thing! Kudos for stirring the pot Roy! Clap

Jack, a rope may get the towed car going…but it would keep going when the tow vehicle slows and stops. I’m no rocket scientist, but I suspect that would be a bad thing. Shocked

Ed, don’t you have a tow bar for Bridget? You could still bring Bridget and park her on the show field. We might even finish the car right there on the grass. Thumbs Up

Just got back from helping Jack with a quick job that requires two people.  He’s (Emma’s) a lot closer than Jack lets on.

Once, many many moons ago (almost 60 years), late at night, my Crosley died in an inconvenient place (at a forbidden bar).  To prevent getting my “liberty card” pulled, I wanted to get it home which was only about a mile away.  Walked home, “borrowed” my dads car and a rope.  Set the emergency brake to cause a drag on Crosley’s rear wheels and towed it home without incident.  Not recommended.

I’ve did a chain in a pipe tow before with a Spitfire, again not recommended!

    Paul & all:

I do have a tow bar and will tow Bridget if she is in towable condition on C-day.
Roy: SET THE EMERGENCY BRAKE! I never would have thought of that, especially after spending the night at the wrong bar. You are freakin’ brilliant!

    Guys —

    only kidding about the rope…
…but I won’t be driving Emma the 500 or so miles to Carlisle
…either the the tow bar or my “new-bought-it-online-as-a-kit trailer” my get its 1st ever road trip this May…
…yea I know — only a kit guy would not only have a kit car or 2, but also a kit trailer….
…a story for another time but the trailer is just about assembled and ready to take on the Interstates
    — or I could just use the tow bar….decisions, decisions, decisions…
…but then again, while sitting and watching me re-run fuel lines, Roy noticed that rear wheel nuts on Emma — the ones that are supposed to be torqued to 350 ft pounds or so, were finger tight….I may just want to load up and take the trailer anyway — not sure what else I will find as I continue toward the Carlisle goal……….

Jack, I was in the same spot, trying to decide on trailer or flat tow.  I went for the tow mostly not knowing the parking for trailer storage there.  There will probably be lots of trailers there, tow bar just gets thrown in the trunk.

There will be plenty of space to park a trailer on the Carlisle fairgrounds.

How about trailer parking at the Courtyard Hotel?  Is that an option?

    @royal

There were 6 +/- folks who towed their cars in 2013.  No problems in parking the trailers at the hotel.

    There is lots of space.
This could change in a hurry though since each trailer towed vehicle actually consumes 3 spaces if the TDr is off the trailer.
My guess is that it would be no problem.
