The FiberFab Ford kit I am building didn’t come with an accelerator cable so I bought a new one for a ’78 Pinto and installed it according to the kit instruction manual. It’s only 24″ long and even with the best routing the bends are quite tight. I worry that it might bind some day and take me quickly where I don’t want to go. Does anyone know of a longer cable that would be an easy replacement? The cable I used is a Pioneer CA8447.

Here is a photo of the cable installed.

Try getting a cable for a full size ford same year 78 with a Sraight 6.The cable should longer because the carb will be further from the firewall.

My engine runs an ’87 truck number. I forget the exact application, but

it fit the pedal and reached the carb. Spend a sunny afternoon

    in a salvage yard.

I just noticed that your cable brack looks unmodified. I recall the initial

installation instructions called for notching the bracket and changing

the angle that the cable approaches the throttle linkage. The factory

Pinto cable had worked fine on that setup for years until I upgraded

    ther engine.

Don,  Just checked mine and it’s not much different.  I lubed it a few years ago and haven’t had any problems.  One time the bracket shifted and it caused a bind at the linkage, but the cable has had no problems.

Don because of the tight turns make sure the cable is well lubed.  I went with an after market universal cable and cut it to length.  You want free movement on this part with the right return spring.

Thanks guys for the helpful input.

I did originally modify the bracket by cutting and bending as the assembly manual indicated.  I welded the cut and painted the bracket so the modification doesn’t show much. If unmodified I think the cable would have run into the side of the master cylinder.

Yesterday I lubed the cable and it’s much freer than I expected it could be. I suspect it will be OK but I am going to continue to look for a longer cable. I’ll post if I find one that works.
