SpikeJanuary 11, 2016 at 8:45 pm #266882What brand/size? The stock Bug speedos look and work great, especially when paired with a 5-inch tach.
January 11, 2016 at 10:37 pm #266883A Porsche 914 electronic tach is identical in size to the VW speedo. I got mine on eBay 2 years ago for under $100. There’s one in a derelict 914 in the Miramar Auto Hobby shop, Ray might sell it.

Slowly coming back from the ashes...January 12, 2016 at 8:48 am #266885I have the aftermarket speedometer. It’s made by VDO and is 3 1/2 inch across.
January 12, 2016 at 8:59 am #266886This guy can likely repair it for you. I had him restore/rebuild the gauges for my planned dashboard.

January 12, 2016 at 5:25 pm #266888If you can get to San Diego, CA stop by Kline Bros. VW repair in El Cajon, CA (closer to Lakeside). They have a couple of milk crates full of VW speedo’s and parts for sale CHEAP (along with other crates of other stuff, new engines and tranny and all EMPI and other parts). Over the years (3) I have found them all to be good guys. Be warned: this is NOT a shop for uneducated “Lookie-Lou’s” to come in and waste their time, they may appear to be a little gruff, but they’re all good guys and will cut you a deal if you are sincere. Highly recommended.
John (Prisoner #6)January 13, 2016 at 7:24 am #266889Have the same speedo and the same trouble. Shipped it to NSI in Greensboro N C. They fixed it, just be sure to tell them your tire size
January 13, 2016 at 7:33 am #266890How much was the cost to rebuild it
Thanks,
SpikeJanuary 13, 2016 at 2:31 pm #266891Spike, about $130.00
January 17, 2016 at 8:51 am #266892Spike, just saw a gps speedo, which I think is the same size and appearance as ours, for 115.00 on e-bay, could be interesting
