Work continued on the TD today (after I cooked Corned Beef and Cabbage for St. Patty’s Day for the family). Remembering that my kit was purchased in 84 and I started actual assembly in 2012 some of the “scribe lines” called out on the body are no longer visible if they were ever there. The inside lip of the body that runs along the top of the floor pan has about 1 1/2-inch horizontal lip. Its my belief that this lip has to be removed but no scribe lines are visible. Just checking that the lip in fact must be removed before I go and cut. The lip is about as wide as the lip that attaches the body to the back of the pan. It is pictured below. (Bill…pay no attention to the socked feet)

A little had to tell from the pics; this might be a case where a broader view might help in lieu of the close-ups.
But I think you could cut it back to match where the floor pan drops off on the sides. The rear looks ok.
Or it might not matter at all, your interior side panels will drop down and cover that area, right?

March 18, 2013 at 8:31 am #255123+1 what Paul said. But as a guy who recently made some side panels: no. The carpet will come up out of the pan and then over the fiberglass lip. That’s why it’s best to make it flush with the metal pan. The upholstered side panel (if you make one–originally my car had carpet there) will go to the bottom of that fiberglass and sit on the little shelf there. And on top of the carpet edge, neatly hiding it.
Here’s the panel I made:

March 18, 2013 at 9:46 am #255125Ed…that’s a neat job on that interior panel. I think I’ll press on with assembly and when the carpet gets here (its on the way) I’ll test fit the carpet and interior side panels and see what’s needed. Thanks for your inputs. And I’ll try to keep my socks, sandals and shorts out of any more photos.
