OK,
Mark (MGLondonRoadste) dared me.
This is not scientific, and is probably filled with errors. But it’s close enough for fun.
If you were to buy every reproduction part available through Moss Motors and assemble an “original MG TD”, aka the “Ultimate TD Kit Car”, you would spend $70,733.60, plus shipping and handling.
And you would still not have a complete car. For example, Moss does not sell an engine block. And of course you will need to search long and hard for a Grill and Grill slats.
That is actually less than I would have guessed. it breaks down as follows:
Chassis/Suspension $10,238.10 Body/Wood $14,824.55 Chrome $5,234.10 Rubber $776.60 Windshield/Wipers $643.55 Engine $17,685.40 Transmission $5,454.15 Interior/Roof $12,327.20 Wire Wheels $3,549.95 $70,733.60 PMOSSBERG 40927.4876388889 Paul Mossberg

January 19, 2012 at 8:32 pm #248800So you’d get all done & you could sell it and recoup a quarter of your cash investment. Somewhere out there, there’s an economist who could use these figures to derive a model to, once and for all, compute “sentimental value.”
January 19, 2012 at 9:19 pm #248801Wow, Good job, I think. $17,000 for an engine? Is that from Moss or where? That seems high to me.
January 19, 2012 at 11:43 pm #248802Um…like I wrote, it’s all Moss Motors reproduction parts
It’s part by part
And like I also wrote, that’s not an engine, since they don’t sell blocks.
It’s just the total of all the engine parts they do sell.
The summary list shown is my categorization of Moss’ parts

January 20, 2012 at 8:43 am #248803Wow. Great job, Paul. And to think that I thought that rebuilt MG TDs (real ones) were too expensive for my wallet?
