Clash of the Titans: Wobby directs traffic whilst Cory Drake attempts to direct Wobby.May 19, 2013 at 5:39 pm #252712On the day before we went over to Carlisle, Bill took off from work and showed me the area. He has some of the best and most picturesque roads I have been on. I had a beautiful drive through French Creek State Park and the Hopewell Furnace on the way to Bills: I followed Bill in his TD to Reading where we climbed the Duryea Pagoda Hill:
Back at Bill & Patty’s playing with his Goldendoodle, Cooper:In all, I went about 90 miles on that day. Early the next morning, on Friday, we left for Carlisle. We met Bob who drove his TF kit 1200+/- miles. Incredible! He of course was awarded won the “longest distance award”, for TDs at our annual awards dinner. Here is Bob at a dinner hosted by Wobby and his beautiful wife Lauren at their motorhome on the Show Field. The whole gang was there:Here we are discussing the trip in the Courtyard parking lot. My tow vehicle, Mercury Mariner in the foreground. Can you find MiGi?:May 19, 2013 at 6:59 pm #252713Sunday’s Show Field
Due to overcast skies, people were bailing left and right. An event staff member came over and thanked me for showing up. I, too, bailed shortly afterwards.

May 19, 2013 at 8:30 pm #252717Excellent, man! Glad you were there to greet Bill and Audrey. Sorry I bagged. Seemed like no one I spoke to was going to make it.
Great pics but . . . what of the AutoX? Thought you had the GoPro on you for a bit?
Karen got some pretty good overhead footage of all the TDs and Danny’s Spyder. I’m hoping to find time to edit it into a coherent thing in the next few weeks and would very much like to have any cockpit footage you might have.
Also, could you post the results? Or tell us where they are posted? Did Dave’s GTI end up winning the weekend?

May 20, 2013 at 7:36 am #252720Great time – thanks for all the pictures. Congrats to Bill for the best time in the autox by a TD w/ Ed having the best time by a vw based TD ( I’ll get you next time ). Your engine OK? Caleb and I got home about 1:00 and missed all the rain although it seemed like the skys would open up at any time ( no top on my ride ). Won a rear anti- sway bar ( thanks to Ed for his kind donation – he picked it and handed it to me ) in the raffle along w/ a few other goodies for my speedie project. Caleb won a 50.00 prize at the Saturday dinner and had a good time ( thanks for making him feel welcome ).
Big thanks to the Woobly’s for providing and hosting the Saturday night cookout.
Great to see everyone and hope to see more next year.
SchuMay 20, 2013 at 7:52 am #252721Blurry phone vid of the Auto X –AKA “First Annual Carlisle Mitty.” When I get some other footage I’ll cut a better one.
Thanks, Schu. Yeah, she ran home just as normal, struggling to keep up with traffic on the hills and with oil pressure dropping all the way but mostly around 30 lbs. Soon as I got off the highway the pressure came back up a little over 10 lbs per 1000 rpm. I think the shake I noticed must have been always there.
My top unlatched at one point on the highway but I caught it, refastened and was back underway in a minute.
Didn’t need wipers because of the Rain-X but I might just replace the old TD wiper arms with new, as the passenger side doesn’t touch the glass when we’re underway.
Check the vid–and send me your clips.

May 20, 2013 at 11:23 am #252722Louise and I want to thank all of you for your wonderful hospitality and being so friendly. This was our first time to Carlisle, and we couldn’t have had a better time, or felt more at home in the group. It was a pleasure to put faces to the names from the web site, and to realize the huge amount or knowledge and experience assembled. The cars were also impressive by each one being delightfully different, with so many clever solutions to the different problems. Thanks for making us feel so welcome. Rollie
