"Drive Happy"April 4, 2013 at 1:36 am #252532I am perilously close to losing my navigator unless a few wives/girlfriends commit to coming.
Julie doesn’t want to be the only woman on the field (of TDrs) and the 900 mile round trip is too much for me to make alone.Anybody??Royal2013-04-04 01:40:58
April 4, 2013 at 8:34 am #252533Karen is in.
April 4, 2013 at 11:49 am #252534Sorry Roy. At the moment, I am flying solo…through life…and Carlisle!
But remember, it’s not just the few TDs. The Speedster group is over fifty cars. There will be plenty of wives & girlfriends.Paul Mossberg

April 4, 2013 at 12:32 pm #252535Max Zimmer often brings his wife Toni, who is very cool.
I think Merklin will bring his wife. Norma comes with Bruce usually (always?). She’s good company . . .
Schu, tell Lois we wish she’d reconsider.
April 4, 2013 at 12:44 pm #252536Sorry, Patti has announced she can’t go. She says she has to work.

"Drive Happy"April 4, 2013 at 6:48 pm #252537Ed,
Lois had a good time last year and likes everybody, but had really bad time w/ allergy’s – so bad that it confined her to the hotel our last two days – a real bummer for her. With the med’s she takes allergy drugs are not allowed.April 4, 2013 at 8:13 pm #252538Yeah, I remember. So I guess she’s out as long as they do it in May?
April 5, 2013 at 1:01 pm #252539Hey folks. A member’s post (Donna) said she was interested and planned on attending. Please don’t forget to mention her to your wives/SO. I’m sure that there will be some other ladies to chat with. Paul…any word from Wobby? haven’t heard a peep from him lately. Hope he’s doing okay. Had a great time chatting with him and all the TD and Speedster crew last year. Wish I could make it again this year. newkitman2013-04-05 13:03:59

April 5, 2013 at 2:56 pm #252541Wobby told me a month or two ago he’s coming and will bring a shade tent and probably Mrs. Wobby. My impression of him in the past three-four years I’ve known him is that he is a man of his word.
A madman, but a man of his word.
April 5, 2013 at 4:17 pm #252542Ed, please tell Karen that she has (as in HAS) to come. Other than the possibles, looks like Julie & Karen are the only certainties. If Karen changes her mind, then Julie and I are likely out also.
I don’t remember Donna, maybe our gatekeeper, Paul could send her a PM?Would be fun to joust with Wobby again. …and meet his wife.If we could get Wobby and Paul to enter the AutoX, I may bring a trophy. That would make 5 VW TDs. (I notice that Paul has been silent on our AutoX ramblings.) I recently bought and am restoring a TD model and I was thinking that it may be cool to have a perpetual (relay race, – pass it on) type trophy for the winner. Seriously, would it be fair to include the front engined muscle TDs in this race? What do you think? I’m not promising my model as a TD trophy yet (I’ve got about $40 invested) and it’s still not done. What do you Carlisle attendees think?Royal2013-04-05 16:18:00
April 5, 2013 at 4:24 pm #252543No, Roy, I don’t need your trophy. Maybe you could give it to second place.

"Drive Happy"April 5, 2013 at 5:12 pm #252544Funny Bill – there you go Roy – the challenge has been laid out for us. I think everyone should be included. Bring a third place trophy for Bill.
April 5, 2013 at 9:54 pm #252545Hah! Yeah, everyone’s in the pool. I don’t believe I’ll be in line for any trophies. I plan to look fine while losing though.
April 6, 2013 at 12:01 am #252546Roger that on looking fine. That’s why I took off the Judson supercharger- it just didn’t look good.
April 6, 2013 at 12:32 am #252547I’ll give it the autocross a shot!

April 6, 2013 at 8:03 am #252548They have ’em, Paul.
Roy: don’t you forget to take out two spark plugs before the race. Saves weight, and the open holes allow the engine to pump air out more efficiently. Just as good as that Judson, at least, and with no style penalty whatsoever.
April 6, 2013 at 8:12 am #252549Serious question for Bill or Ed: When you are “up” at the AutoX, how long do you have between runs? How many runs are you allowed? I’m wondering how much time to do tweaking – adjust tire pressures, carb mixture, swap engines (sorry, I couldn’t keep it totally serious) etc.
April 6, 2013 at 11:50 am #252550My wife Barbara is hoping she will be able to make the trip to Carlisle with me. If she can’t make it, I will be asking my daughter Debbie to join me.

Rochester, MIApril 6, 2013 at 12:11 pm #252551Last year we had 3 runs of 3 laps. The time between runs was several minutes (5-!0)? This depends on how many are in the run group. Plenty of time to some fine tuning. I believe you could swap the engine if you could come close to the record time. I read somewhere a swap on a Beetle could be completed in about 5 minutes?

"Drive Happy"April 6, 2013 at 12:34 pm #252552Don, looking forward to meeting one of your girls.
Bill, I won a case of beer once by swapping a beetle engine with my 80# son, and a 16ft long 2×10 and a few cinder blocks and tools. 15 minutes in my driveway. (I was only 34.) The board was my quickie jack with cinder blocks as the fulcrum.April 6, 2013 at 2:20 pm #252553A minute and four seconds is all you need. Guinness world record:

Of course that’s with the rear end off the ground already. See it here:

April 6, 2013 at 3:46 pm #252554I suggest we do a Chinese Fire Drill between rounds, swapping engines with each other.
April 6, 2013 at 3:56 pm #252555That’s really impressive. Is it as easy in one of your TD’s? Not speed, I realize, but accessibility and ease of disconnecting everything.
