Ok folks, we’ve all heard the story about the classic car hidden away in the barn. This is as close as I will probably ever get to that situation.
I was looking at an authentic 1953 MGTD when I stumbled upon this kit car. I knew nothing about them but have been educating myself as I go.
I obtained this CMC kit and it is really amazing. It is 95% complete with all of the hard work already done, frame, engine, drive train, brakes, interior, guages, etc. The original owner just got tired of it and gave it to his brother. His instructions were “Finish it, sell it, or push it off a cliff, I don’t care. I need the space and don’t want to see it again!!” Needless to say, the brother was a motivated seller. He lowered the price twice before I ever even saw the car in person.
I asked him to send me a couple of pics and when I saw them and he confirmed the price, I hopped in my truck, hitched up the trailer and made the 10 hour trek to snap this up.
I have a little finishing to do and a lot of checking on his work. What I’ve checked so far seems to be well done. He farmed out fabrication of the frame. The kit is missing some minor parts such as mirrors, fog lights and bumper over riders but it looks like MG Magic and Parts America can help out there.
This car might as well have been in a time capsule for the last 20 years. The body and interior don’t look like they have ever been in the light of day. Plus to make matters even better, he still had all of the assembly manuals and paperwork to go with it.
I’ll try to post some pics as I make some progress.
Keep looking!! There are still some real finds out there.
