the exterior door handles on my BCW ’52 don’t work…

i’ve removed the interior cover and see that, when the handle is pushed, the latch just pops off the square stem (from the outside handle). seems to me there should be a clip of some kind on the stem to hold the latch inplace.

does anyone have any ideas for a fix/repair?

I just had to make the same repair on my newly acquired CR Duchess. I went to Lowes (Home Depot) and picked up a package of “star washers” (have teeth around the inside). You’ll need one with an interior size that is slightly smaller than the square stem. Use a needle nose pliers to push it on to stem and the washer teeth should bend around the stem and secure the latch in place. Hope that works for you as it did for me.
