    @pmossberg

    Got an email from a new TD replica owner. Hope I don’t spoil my reputation. But I was not able to answer the question. So….here it is:

    We recently acquired a pinto based ( suspension and engine/transmission
    ) TD replica . Vin number on frame is PTD 00615 . I contacted Dan
    Richer at Fiberfab . He thinks the Fiberfab kit VIN numbers started with ff , but has no records prior to 2002 . Does this make it a CMC kit
    or were there others using this combination?

    Anyone have any ideas?

        Could it be a factory built car?  Posibaly P for Pinto and TD for type? Then number of car made.

         I have no facts to back this up . It is a guess at what it might be.

    I have a CMC/Fiberfab  VW based kit. Everything in the paperwork states Fiberfab except the Assembly Manual which states CMC/Fiberfab. The tag that came with the paperwork states Fibrefab International and states the serial number as FM1876. My guess is “F” for Fiberfab and “M” for CMC but its just my guess.

    I’m not aware of any serial number accompanying my kit.
    It’s been so long maybe there is one somewhere, but I’ve never seen it.
    I’ve also never looked.

    Mine is a CMC Pinto base and has the CMC brass plate under the dash #   M15xx.  Title reads the same.

    I have two TD’s,  the first on I bought complete and running.  The serial number on the fire wall is FM2410 and that is stamped on a brass plate from FiberFab International.  The second one, is not complete, has no paper work with it and the only numbers I can find is 41-0205.  raised numbers in the floor behind the passengers seat.  Both cars are set up for Pinto, first is 4 cyl auto,  second V6 4 speed.  Second car isn’t titled yet, first cars VIN FM2410.
