Check the last picture in my photo gallery . It shows a car with the engine and body in the same positions as yours ,also a smaller air cleaner that may work for you.I tried to post it here but missed three times and gave up. Larry Murphy40348.703287037

Roll up to the top of this or any other page[post] ,you will see two rows of buttons[they may be called icons] and the photo gallery is the last one on the second row, Click on it and a list will come up, schroll down the list  to my name or whoever else you want to see and click on it . You will see more TD replicas in one place than anywhere in the world. Far more than in the photo gallery in the aqua listing  at the left side that is always visable.

Charlie,It’s like a whole new world! If you click on a picture ,then drag it to the right and then down ,you can make most of them full screen, also zoom in to make them even larger. It ‘s a great way to see how something looks before you actually do it. Also makes it easier to compare the different kits as each brand has their good points , not so good points and etc. It’s like going to school but with all the subjects being something of interest.Got some well trained and experienced teachers too.I’m still a student but have come a long way from where I was not that long ago.

Well the doors are on and we have been for a few rides. I dont have any brackets for the bumpers or splash pan. Will they be the same as on a VW? If so I know were one is at that I can check out.

After taking a few rides I can tell that I really do need to put rear shocks on. So thought I would get some orderd. Do any of you have suggestions on which ones I should put on? For a 1300 lb. car shoud I just get cheap ones from JC Whitney or should I go a diffrent way?

Charlie,VW brackets will not work, not even close. The brackets are made using 1 1/2 ” by 3/8 flat iron [one and one half by three eights].Look in Washington Will’s and Wolf pow’s gallery and you can see the front part of the brackets and how they attach to the rear of the VW pan. While the brackets are made of flat iron I don’t know how you would get the correct angle at the top of the shock mount. The brackets extend to the rear bumper and have a 90 degree bend to attach the bumper and a reinforcing piece of the same material connects the right and left brackets  together behind the bumper. They will need to be  either cut and welded back together or perhaps heated to bend them.

My opinion on the shocks is that standard replacements would be fine.

Charlie, I just looked in the download manuals section . The MIGI manual describes the brackets and shows a drawing on page 119.

The CMC manual shows a different style bracket that may be easier to fabricate on page 19. It appears that these brackets are made of angle iron and may be the stronger of the two designs.

Check them out ,meanwhile someone else may have other suggestions or know where you can find the brackets.

It looks like the engine cover is hitting the pre-heater boxes above the muffler. You can throw these boxes away and get more clearance. Also, the empi mufflers (avail from partsdoghouse and Cip1) give you more room under the cover. Read the muffler thread.

The height of the engine cooling fan is the real limiting factor. My Migi has the cover 1-1/2 inches below the back of the upper body.

    Hi Charlie,

I am the other design Classics Guy.

I will send you pics, or post them as soon as I get back from vacation. It may be a couple of weeks. It looks like your engine is too high in the body. Body may not have been mounted right. It looks like the body is in really good shape. They appear to be a well made kit. I will post something or send you a message when I get back. Might be interested in some of the pages of the manual if you have it. Hope it will be an easy fix for you. How many CCs is the engine? If you want to pull the heater boxes let me know, I will probably buy them from you.

    Good luck!!

Grandpa I do have the manual and would be glad to send any pages you need. The engine is 1300CC. We are just finishing up a full overhaul on it. We talked last week about taking the heater boxes off but I decided to leave them just in case.
