Bill, I’ll PM you a good location in a few days. Hope to scout one by end of this weekend. OK?

"Drive Happy"October 10, 2012 at 7:00 pm #251628I was hoping to eat at a place on the way to Pungo, but I called them today (I lived in VaBch for quite a few years) and they don’t do breakfast. Bummer. Anyway, and then along came Mary:
From my son Chris who may join us with his TR4: This is my favorite. It’s been there forever…nothing fancy, but good…but can get busy – very diner-like. You may want to try to get a reservation (?) If they take them…It’s not as fancy or modern as their website makes them appear: http://marys-restaurant.com/On Oct 10, 2012, at 7:18 AM, <rfhendrix@suddenlink.net> wrote:Chris, on the 3rd of Nov (Sat) we will have at least 4 MGTDr’s meeting up for breakfast on the way to Pungo. The long haul guys are staying in the Oceanfront Inn.They want to meet up for breakfast at 0900 where I’ll join them and then on to the show. Could you recommend a place, It could be anywhere along the route from Oceanfront and Pungo.Doesn’t have to be a 5 star restaurant. Speaking for myself I prefer a non-chain place with good “diner-like” food. So, what do you guys think? It’s downtown on 17th street.October 10, 2012 at 7:04 pm #251629Just discovered that if you bold a link it no longer works. Whoda thunk. Try this one:
October 10, 2012 at 8:43 pm #251630Looks like a great choice.
Roy, you done good.
As we get closer to Nov. with a total head count, we’ll see if
we need to reserve a large table.
Everyone else OK?Bill Ascheman

"Drive Happy"October 10, 2012 at 9:46 pm #251631All good here.
October 19, 2012 at 5:25 pm #251632Dale, If you are coming (and I hope you are), you should get your reservation in soon.
There are limited number of “rock star” parking spots left and Ed/Bill/I have 3 of them. I’ll bet that they go over the weekend.October 19, 2012 at 5:45 pm #251633Roy,
I guess I better make a decision – been putting it off. I will make the call by Saturday night.October 19, 2012 at 9:23 pm #251634C’mon, Shubie!
Come to think of it, we should get Wobby down here too. Where is that boy?
October 21, 2012 at 5:38 pm #251635OK, washed the car again today. Got off the dirt clods my neighbor’s lawn dudes splashed on it a few weeks back. Changed the oil: VR 1 Synthetic Valvoline 5W30, mostly, topped with a half quart of 10-30 high mileage stuff.
The oil pressure’s the same–which is to say, good. Until I turn the headlights on. That drops it about 7 lbs across the board.
That explains my concerns as far back as Carlisle. I drive with the lights on when on the highway, not so often on cross roads. Only noticed the headlight effect on the way home from the Pumpkin Run.
So good news and bad news, I guess. But mostly good. But I do not like wiring.
October 21, 2012 at 6:32 pm #251636Ed, I had such undersized wiring and poor grounds that when I put on my headlights, my radio went off. I’d bet that your headlights would be a lot brighter if you up-sized your wiring and added some good grounds. (My oil pressure also fluctuated with the headlights. But the most fun was when I had the volume up on the radio, you could watch the oil pressure and it was in perfect syncopation with the beat of the bass drum and bass guitar.)
October 21, 2012 at 6:48 pm #251637Roy- Good point about the ground and lighting.
will clean up my grounds.Ed I know nothing about wiring dislike it even more .. With my head light on she drops oil pressure and charging rate. I have a new generator as of the first of the year .also ..while we are talking oil pressure . I have 50lbs+ at start up then as she warms up it will drop to about 10lbs+ while running now . I use castrol SAE 20W-50. this is what my air cooled VW garage recommended –In the hot summer months fully warmed up sitting at a light I show maybe 5lbs pressure if that and runnnig maybe 7lbsOctober 21, 2012 at 7:04 pm #251638John, this thread is getting off subject, but re oil pressure, I’d suspect the oil pump.
See:https://tdreplica.com/forums/topic/whatzit-oil-pump-questin/Easy to replace but be careful which one you buy. The 50# at startup is because you are running 20W50 and it’s relatively thick when cold. I’d bet that with a new pump and a lighter 10W30 you’d be good.October 21, 2012 at 7:19 pm #251639Roy Thx for the info ..
my rebuild is 26 years .
I hope to catch up with you at some point..October 21, 2012 at 9:20 pm #251640I’ve got around 5-10 at idle and 20-40 running. Usually (lights off) I’m a little above 10 lbs per 1000 rpm.
Right on the grounds. That’s really gotta be it. I will add a couple big green wires back to the negative terminal on the battery as soon as I get a couple free hours.
October 21, 2012 at 9:38 pm #251641Ed – thx
October 21, 2012 at 9:58 pm #251642Schu, I guess you decided not to come with us? Bummer! Super Bummer! We’ll miss you. Hope you just got tied up and weren’t able to make reservations yet. As of right now, we TD’ers have more cars than any other marque except the Porsches and they are the hosts. (51 autos so far with 2 weeks to go)
October 22, 2012 at 7:43 am #251643Roy, perhaps your son can recommend a Steak House for Saturday Night.
His breakfast choice looks good, I’ll trust his choice for dinner.Bill Ascheman

"Drive Happy"October 22, 2012 at 9:17 am #251644Bill et al, Chris polled his office and the consensus is:
Both are “downtown” Virginia Beach on the strip just off the ocean.I told him not to include chains.I’m still trying to get him to bring his super nice original, driver TR4 but he’s busy parenting with grandkids soccer, karate, and all the other stuff that I only have a vague memory of.October 22, 2012 at 9:27 am #251645Princess Anne Rd aka 615 is the road that you likely will take from the hotel south to the show. On the way is Red Mill Commons which has an Outback if you prefer.
October 22, 2012 at 2:29 pm #251646Still working on it – now trying to get a 1/2 day off on Friday so I can hook up w/ Ed if he is still coming my way.
October 22, 2012 at 7:43 pm #251647Roy, I also would prefer to avoid the chains. Try the local fare, I say.
Schu, we’ll be hooking up with Ed outside Glen Burnie around 10:00 AM.
If you can swing it, that’d be great. We got all day to get there.Bill Ascheman
