September 29, 2013 at 8:57 pm #254057Now there’s an idea that I may pick up on: carpet under the when working underneath.
September 30, 2013 at 3:33 am #254058Definitely helps with the knees and dropped hardware doesn’t bounce away to the far side of the garage.

"Drive Happy"October 2, 2013 at 7:39 am #254062Geez Bill. It doesn’t even look like the same car. And you used a paint roller and rolled the paint on. I’m definitely going to do this with the front on my side cowls. Excellent work.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackOctober 2, 2013 at 7:24 pm #254068The only loose parts left are the front bumper and the right running board. Lamps are all on and worked on the first try. Wheels all on. I will be driving by the weekend. Woo Hoo!!

1600 cc Type 1 engineOctober 8, 2013 at 8:15 pm #254079One never notices the slow degradation of systems when used on a regular basis. When test driving the beast I became unnerved by the feel of the brake pedal. It was no different from when I had parked her, but having not driven her in quite a while it was obvious something was wrong. When I went to test the master cylinder pressure there appeared to be crystals on the outside of the cylinder.
So, in lieu of pulling the lines to install plugs for testing, I emptied the cylinder of fluid and discovered the bottom of the cylinder had a layer of mud in it. Time for a new cylinder. It turns out, that cylinder was installed in 1992. It was due. Removal was easy enough, but as any easy plan, this snowballed. I was unable to get my hand in position to reinstall the front line due to the interference of the secondary fuel bowl on that Holley 4V. While the cylinder dripped fluid I had to quickly remove the carb. I had to order new gaskets today. Everything is now reinstalled, braked bled and ready for a road test. Tomorrow? I can only hope.
