Glad you did that. My car’s MC is probably due for replacement too… I bought one last year and then did not install it.
October 8, 2013 at 9:21 pm #254081Good luck Bill. My whole system is new and I’m testing the heck out of it trying to gain confidence.
October 14, 2013 at 8:11 pm #254082What’s wrong with this sequence?
Used the car for work today. 45 degrees when I left. Car ran great until noon when the car fell on it’s face and died. Fuel pump died. AAA got me home, grabbed a new pump at work and had the car running by 6:00 PM. Glad this didn’t happen on 95 in DC. We’ll try again tomorrow.

"Drive Happy"October 14, 2013 at 8:21 pm #254083Yeah, it’s good that it broke and you got it fixed quickly. The more I look at your wheels, the more I like them. Why didn’t you do the spare?
October 14, 2013 at 8:27 pm #254084Glad that was a quick fix, Bill.
ditto Roy on the spare tire. Your wheels look damn good that way.October 14, 2013 at 9:17 pm #254085Unattractive spare tire mount…wheel cover hides it and houses the third stop lamp.

"Drive Happy"October 15, 2013 at 9:12 am #254086Like them to – more hot rod – they way I like them – Mech fuel pumps – got to love the 10% corn – carry an extra fuel pump just for that reason.
February 5, 2014 at 1:40 pm #254087Bill,
Just now read through your thread. Very nice work. What is the spring rate on your coil overs, also length? Did you use a 3 link or some other rear suspension configuration?
Thanks for any comments.
Meland the wall looks mighty fine. Built one from the same blocks last spring.
February 5, 2014 at 8:00 pm #254088Home built a 3 link with a panhard rod. Alden Eagle coil overs with 500# springs. Front shocks are bolt in replacements for the original Mustang II shocks. Too cold to measure rear ones. I had to add a crossmember to accept an upper mount and built lower mounts at the axle tube mount.

Thanks for the information. 500 lb springs seems a little stiff. How is the ride and/or handling.
Regards
MelFebruary 6, 2014 at 10:06 pm #254090With the shocks set on the softest setting and tire pressure at 28 psi, the ride is rather cushy. It’s not at all harsh. With the shocks cranked up, I autocross.

"Drive Happy"August 3, 2014 at 6:26 pm #254091How I spent the first weekend of August.
With the dash purchased from Gabe and the Wheel I received for Fathers Day, I was able to extend the beast’s transformation. What a difference 25 years of weather can do.I no longer use the radio, so instead of drilling holes in the dash I relocated the wiper, and heater controls into the radio opening.

August 4, 2014 at 2:47 pm #254095Very, very nice work, Bill. One question: How do you operate your heater from the dash? Mine just has the VW control at the base of the e-brake.
As for the radio, I’ve never had one in my Lafer, either, preferring the music of the open road.

1600 cc Type 1 engineAugust 4, 2014 at 4:18 pm #254096Bill, Bill’s TD is Ford-powered, with the engine in the front. He’s got a hot-rod type heater in it with an electric fan. That has a switch he can put on the dash.
I’ve got the same basic heater now and I don’t like the switch plate, but so be it….August 4, 2014 at 7:10 pm #254097Thank you, Ed.

August 5, 2014 at 7:42 pm #254099I keep forgetting that we have a lot of front-engine TDr drivers here. No offense intended … instead, just a tad envious because my “heater” barely qualifies. Doesn’t do much more than defog the windshield, although our winters here in Southeast Texas seldom last long or get too cold.

1600 cc Type 1 engineAugust 5, 2014 at 8:34 pm #254100I’m surprised of the mileage I’ve accrued since I repaired my odometer last February. Over 2,300 miles so far this season. I had guessed my total mileage was in the neighborhood of 80-85K. With this true number as a gauge, I would have to guess it’s up around 100K. Who’d a thunked it?

August 10, 2014 at 2:39 pm #254102Ed is responsible, or better yet, to be given credit, for finding the gas cap. They are available from an outfit in Florida called British American Transfer.
