Not necessarily a VW part but looking for those cool “wings” all of the best
TD’s seem to have. They stick out from the side of the windscreen and
provide a bit of protection from sidewinds. I suppose I could fashion some
from plexiglass but am hoping someone has a source. I looked on Moss
Motors, did not see it. What are they actually called?
November 23, 2008 at 2:37 pm #237844Hi Chuck,
I did a google search for “mg wind wings” and found one E-bay-UK hit for a UK based seller with three pairs available. The same search in E-Bay’s USA site produced nothing.
The UK auction is at
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MGTD-MGTF-WIND-WINGS-COMPLETE-WITH-BRA CKETS-BAG_W0QQitemZ310102486783QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsPar ts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item310102486783&_trksid=p3 286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240 %3A1318#ShippingPayment
You may have to paste that address back together. I suspect the posting forum software will put in some line breaks.
I also googled “wind wings” or “cobra wind wings”. You’ll find several suppliers. But the Cobra wings are not shaped correctly for our TDs.

November 24, 2008 at 11:37 pm #237846I searched all over Moss last night and could not find them. I tried again…and there they are…in “exteriors”, “accessories”

January 11, 2009 at 12:29 pm #237847Hi Chuck,
Just wondering if you ever found a source for the Wind Wings? Mine are pretty badly “crazed” from the sun and I’d like to replace them. I’m thinking that good quality 1/4″ thk Plexiglass would do the trick. Just concerned on the cutting and getting the right look on the beveled edges. Let me know what you decided to do.
Thanks,
Rich
January 13, 2009 at 12:30 am #237848Rich, Just this evening I found the wings on moss motors. They were not
cheap but if you plug the search above in you will find them !! They sure
look nice though.
July 19, 2009 at 3:42 pm #237849I took my wing to a local plastic company in Philly. Typically they do acrylic awards & such. They drilled the holes, & beveled the sides. I had them do four for a total cost of seventy-five dollars. I keep a spare set in case I need to replace any of the two new ones.
July 19, 2009 at 5:51 pm #237850I have a PDF of the plex pattern of the Moss set, a dimensioned full size pattern on letter sized paper. I can email it to anyone that wants it.

estreetplastics.com
6″ x 12″ – Clear Polycarbonate Lexan Sheet – 3/16″ Thick 4 $3.99 Total $15.96
I made 4, two for backup. They were easy to cut on my bandsaw. Just have to be careful. I used a template I got from James only I made mine taller to use the full 12″ of the stock.
For the hardware I went with

November 8, 2010 at 5:55 pm #237853I’ve ordered my set from MG Magic. Order hasn’t arrived yet. I’ll post quality and photos when they get here.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackJuly 6, 2011 at 11:14 pm #237854I made mine from some Plexiglas from Lowes. You can cut it with a Jig-Saw. Then sand the edges, and they will look great, and it is cheap. Cut them out with a fine tooth scroller blade, but not super fine as it will get hot and weld itself back together as you cut. Learned that the hard way. It takes an afternoon, but saves a bundle.

July 7, 2011 at 10:16 am #237855I had my replacements made at a local plastic fab shop. total cost was I think $30.00. I redesigned them a little larger (see my photos), they work great and didn’t break the bank. I already had the hindges on the car from the old ones so it was easy.
Had him make me a rear wind screen this year. As soon as I get the pictures to come out I’ll post them. Montie
