Having postponed the long-planned Roast Beef Run I decided to risk a trip 40 minutes up RT 24 here in Maryland to check out MGs on the Rocks, the 32nd annual meeting and all-Brit show by MGs of Baltimore.
Great show, despite the threat of rain. Plus, it didn’t rain.
Here’s a few snaps:
Overall scene was B-heavy, as is usually the case:
Beer was served…or smuggled in. Not sure.
This one’s by far my favorite car on the lot: ’53 club racer with patina to spare.
-Dig that crazy cut-off switch . . . you could actually do it from outside the car! There was lots of other great stuff there, including some better-preserved TDs. This one was hands-down the cleanest–another ’53:
My entry for best shift knob:
This badass V-8 B:
Several very nice E-Types:
And such uncategorizable awesomeness as this:
with its awesome 2-cylinder, air-cooled, race-ready, awesome powerplant . . .This guy drove from York PA. Morris Minor has 38 ground-pounding horsepower! He says it’ll do 65 mph as long as there are no hills:
Dude even has the original “Club” for it:
. . .turns out the “Club” originates in the ’50s. And it was called the “Krookloc.”My favorite plaque/sticker:

September 24, 2011 at 6:51 pm #246673Most excellent photos Ed. Thanks. Not sure if I like the cleanest dash or the best shifter photo the best. Now if the TD had THAT shifter, oh wow!

September 24, 2011 at 10:24 pm #246675OK, guys, take me to school. What in the heck is that slick little red beauty with the big No. 5 on the door and boot? And does it really have only two cylinders?

1600 cc Type 1 engineSeptember 25, 2011 at 9:27 am #246676I think it’s a Berkeley, probably an SE-328 “Deluxe.” The owner wasn’t near it when I passed so I just spent a half hour on the Google.
Air-cooled, 18-horses, and a fiberglass body. Maybe I should’ve said “yes” when the guy at the gate asked me if I wanted to put Bridget on the show field.
Here’s another shot of that engine, through the grille:

September 25, 2011 at 3:13 pm #246677Just when I thought I had a pretty good handle on the postwar British sports car scene, along comes something like that. Wow. Just . . . wow.
Thanks, Ed. I’d never have known even where to start looking for that.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackJanuary 30, 2012 at 10:22 pm #246681Super nice resto & some neat old slides of racing Berkeleys from back in the day.
Again I say: British fiberglass cars with air-cooled engines. These things are our blood brothers.
January 31, 2012 at 12:22 am #246682Awesome Ed, thanks for sharing and being our eyes when we can’t be there!
