New to the site. I just purchased a white MG TD replica (fiberfab)on a 1968 VW chassis about 2 weeks ago. I live in Northern Michigan. Only 55 degrees, but came home from work and had to drive it. What a blast. I don’t not know anything about this car. I know it was originally assembled in Illinois, don’t know when. Then wound up in Michigan. The man I bought it from had it 15 years. I know it’s titled incorrectly. My title says 1968 Volkswagen. Secretary of State gave me a hard time, they want it re-titled as a kit car which means I need to know when the car was assembled.
May 17, 2016 at 8:11 pm #268140Welcome aboard Marnie. Glad you found our group. I too have a Fiberfab kit car which I’m still building. But according to the MSO letter I have from the (then) president of Fiberfab for my TD, mine was built in 1984. The MSO letter also states that Fiberfab kits were discontinued in the early 1990s. Latest yours could be built was early 90s. Check any paperwork you have or perhaps call the person you purchased it from. If that doesnt’t work if you can see any sort of part number, I believe the 1st number is the year of manufacturer. Mine all start with 4 indicating 1984. Hope that helps some. My kit was from Minnesota, but I purchased it from the original owner in 2012 just north of here in Marietta, GA. Hope this helps some. And again…welcome to the greatest bunch of folks on the planet.

May 17, 2016 at 8:56 pm #268143I live in Illinois and built a Fiberfab MiGi on a 1974 VW donor car. After the build it was inspected by the Sectary of State and was issued an Assigned Identification Number. It is titled as a 1974 VW.

May 19, 2016 at 6:42 am #268148Drove my car 30 miles to work. It was 38 degrees when I left. Just HAD to drive it. What a blast!!May 19, 2016 at 8:35 am #268149Leather aviator cap (Snoopy hat) highly recommended. It looks funny with a Honda, but is perfectly acceptable with these.
Welcome.

May 19, 2016 at 9:16 am #268151I drove all through this winter. It was a very mild (for Illinois) winter compared to LAST (2014-15)year. Only one or two sub-zero days.
Having worked over thirty years as an outside telephone tech, I am well acclimated with dressing for the weather.
Long underwear, wool sweater, leather jacket, hat, gloves, I’m ready for the Arctic…
Got LOTS of strange looks though!Amor Conquista Todo
May 19, 2016 at 12:43 pm #268152I was trying to figure out what to wear on my head. I have shoulder length hair that obviously didn’t stay in a pony tail, baseball cap blew off within minutes. Thanks for the tip on the snoopy hat.

Nice ride! You should bring it to the Mixhigan Vintage Volkswagen Festival this weekend (See http://www.mvvc.net … Festival ;ages.) The Festval is in Ypsilanti, which is just east of Ann Arbor. There are construction closures on I-275 and M-14, so watch your planned route. I believe you couls safely take US23 south from Flint all the way to I-94 then east to Ypsilanti.Yours would be a unique VW, but not the first kit car there. I had a Bradley GT II and showed it last year before I sold it. My current MG TD is a Fiberfaab Ford Based unit.I am President of that Club, so I will be bringing a VW Rabbit to the show. The weather will be freally nice … hope to see you there!H. May 21, 2016 at 5:26 pm #268156Here you go. I don’t have their aviator cap, but I have bought other products from them. Excellent workmanship.

I’m thinking about ordering the aviator/collar/mask combo cap since I live in the mid-west and like the full coverage.
From the sound of it, ordering now, in May/June, it would arrive just in time for the chilly season.Amor Conquista Todo
