Just spotted this on the ‘bay. Never heard they were called “The Ascot.” Cornier than even the ads depicted at the time.
Looks like it was babied. Pretty spirited bidding too. Wasn’t someone here looking for a front engine car with an automatic?
April 14, 2011 at 10:24 am #244286A couple discrepancies:
1) They are not built on MG frames.
2) It’s VIN is the Chevette donor car.
3) The bidding is probably “friends” bidding it up to the reserve.
It’s in Philly ed, go take a look

“It was just gone over by European Auto Classics”
Why would you need this “European” expertise on a GM drivetrain 🙂
April 14, 2011 at 3:39 pm #244288I’ts a very nice car , but the truck behind it would be better.

April 14, 2011 at 10:42 pm #244289all good points/observations, Mark. He’s also got it listed as both an ’86 and an ’82. But whatever. Just so everyone knows, I’m no relation to the seller and no intention of bidding. someone here was looking for an automatic & thought I’d try to help.
April 15, 2011 at 11:51 pm #244290Don’t think I’ve ever seen a front engine kit with VW wheels before.

April 16, 2011 at 12:17 am #244291The BCWs had ’em, apparently.
April 16, 2011 at 11:20 am #244292I’ve seen several Chevette based BCWs with the VW wheels on the web and here on the forum, but have not seen one in person . I don’t know if they reworked the wheel center or redrilled the Chevette hubs. They may have used an adapter but it did not cause the wheel to extend out beyond the fender. Sweppes and Suntan Sailor’s BCWs both have these wheels on the forum in the photo gallery. If anyone knows how they did it ,please let us know.
April 17, 2011 at 8:45 pm #244293I see it sold for $7450. That’s encouraging!!!
