Over the last few years, I have seen a few of you post about interest in building an electric TDr. Here are all the necessary pieces (as close as you’re going to get) to electrify your TDr, in a currently running car that he’s willing to let go cheap.
I mentioned once or twice that my brother, John, built an electric car two winters ago. Well, he’s decided to sell it. It’s just not practical in the Catskill mountains of NY.So here’s what he’s selling:Warp 9 motor with about 100 miles on it. Set up as a 96 vdc system.Motor controller with the “pot box”.12 8vdc lead acid one year old golf cart batteries. 100 miles since new.2 48dc battery chargers. And a titled (NY), registered/licensed Yugo that you can tow or drive home. Not a rusty hunk. Looks good. Even shines.John estimates that it’ll go about 30-35 miles @ about 45 mph between charges in the hilly Catskills. He said “I don’t know how fast it’ll go. But faster than I want to (it’s a Yugo).”PMOSSBERG 2014-06-16 13:43:39 June 16, 2014 at 1:45 pm #260623Roy,
The link looks good in your email, but it resolves to https://picasaweb.google.com/m when you either click it or copy it.Paul Mossberg

June 16, 2014 at 2:06 pm #260624Paul, i’m confused. Again.
When I click the link in my post I get 12 pics of the build and the, much slower than a speeding bullet, completed Yugo.Seems to work for me.June 16, 2014 at 3:36 pm #260625Don’t work for me either, goes to some picture web site.

I’m far from a picasaweb expert…but this portion of the url in your link (viewer#album/tr3rdster/5837463939218092225,authkey:Gv1sRgCKLP8ZjZmo3eew) makes me think the link is to a secure section of the picasaweb website. When soneone other than the owner of that secure section tries to access the site, picasaweb does not allow us in, and truncates the url to the base public page, which is https://picasaweb.google.com/mPaul Mossberg

June 16, 2014 at 8:42 pm #260627I’d like to see this. And know the price.
The Warp 9 is the motor you want for this, if you’re going DC. But all the action (and a lot of money and trouble, usually–the more of one the less of the other) is in the controller. What’s the maker and spec on that?June 16, 2014 at 8:52 pm #260628By the way, here is where he ought to list it:
Wow. lookit all the Porsche EVs!June 16, 2014 at 10:21 pm #260629The controller is from paulandsabrinasevstuff.com/store/page6.html.
John is asking $3,000 for the whole rig. I know that he has a lot more than that into the parts and pieces than that. Of course, – no charge for labor.Having some difficulty posting pics. Will keep trying.June 17, 2014 at 7:18 am #260630Wow. If this were five years ago I’d be all over that. It’s basically the rig I was going to put in Bridget–except I was going to try to fit 120 volts.
I priced the parts out (Curtiss controller for me) and stopped adding when I got to $6,000. That was in 2009.June 17, 2014 at 7:38 am #260631That’s about right Ed. This is not a K-Mart electric car kit. Good stuff. (But a Yugo is a Yugo.)
John is a retired electrician who ran all the electrics at the massive Concord Hotel Resort for many years before opening his own electric business.Built the Yugo because he wanted to.June 17, 2014 at 8:12 am #260632There is a group called the EVA. back in my Ghia days a friend of mine had two 74 Ghias. One regular stock 1600 engine and one electric Ghia. Even still had to shift the electric Ghia. He moved to Wash. with his job. Google EVA and you’ll see lots of photos of various different cars. Pinto, Chevettes, VWs, Mustang, etc.
