hey Ed what powers the Fan?
May 26, 2014 at 8:13 pm #258242There will be a wire from the ECU to a relay up there. The fan will be wired to the battery with a 15 amp fuse, and the ECU should tell it what to do.

"Drive Happy"May 28, 2014 at 8:20 pm #258247Took a lot of pics over the weekend as I did the rad mounts and wiring and stuff. Kept meaning to do a blog post but life intervened. The short version: Rads and fan are in, shroud is conceptually–not physically–done, but the wires are a worry.
I plugged all the stuff in and put a key-on wire where it was supposed to go, grounded the box and tried to start.I just wanted to hear the engine fire–even without an exhaust or any coolant. Not only did I not get a start, I did not get a + signal to the fuel pump indicating that the ECU was awake. (I was able to crank the starter, of course–that’s the old wiring in effect).Assuming it’s bad ground and shortcutting, like it usually is with me, and not some kind of catastrophic ECU-burning disaster.Looking forward to trying again this weekend.June 5, 2014 at 8:29 pm #258248Visited the muffler shop this a.m. to check progress on Bridget. The exhaust was all-but done and the passenger half of the coolant lines were also pretty much complete. They had not yet started the driver’s side. Mike told me maybe by the end of the day tomorrow. Finger’s crossed on that.

"Drive Happy"June 8, 2014 at 9:16 pm #258250Still awaiting word from the Muffler Man.
If anyone’s interested, in the previous post to this one I also show the final making of the radiator support and the construction of the “Wheel o’ Death” speed sensor.edsnova2014-06-08 21:17:33
June 14, 2014 at 12:53 pm #258251Bridget is back home. Exhaust and coolant pipes all done, save for a few clamps and some flexy connections.. Gonna try to dry start today. Fingers crossed.:-)
June 15, 2014 at 3:10 pm #258252Got her to fire, but cheated & used starting fluid to do it. Gonna have to fool with the fuel system a bit more.
But it seems as though the basic concept is operable: The ecu works; the car will run.June 15, 2014 at 4:16 pm #258253Great news Ed. I can imagine that you are really anxious for a ride.
June 15, 2014 at 6:38 pm #258254Yeah. The list of things to do is still pretty long though.
I think maybe the fuel injectors are stuck. the car/engine sat most of a year with no fuel on them.Back at it.June 15, 2014 at 8:56 pm #258255And we’re running.
Turns out I had the fuel pump in backwards. It was just blowing bubbles into the gas tank until I turned it around. Then she started right up.June 15, 2014 at 9:52 pm #258256Outstanding.
June 15, 2014 at 10:06 pm #258257Here is the blog post on it, with vid of the engine starting.

"Drive Happy"June 22, 2014 at 10:12 pm #258260Still working on it.
Coolant pipes are now all-but finalized. Rear hanger was quite tricky and I am very creative (which is to say it’s probably not good). Also had to take some time today and weld my crossmember back together. Here’s the blow-by-blow.edsnova2014-06-27 20:16:01
June 27, 2014 at 8:34 pm #258261Took a few days off from the car and everything else. Finished the air intake and then got the engine running and idling today.
Coolant burping was a real issue. Ran water through it and the top side was glugging through very hot. She was geysering out past the garden hose I was running into her. T he pipes were pinging. Could not keep the rad full. Finally the engine stalled but pretty sure it was a short in the spaghetti. It didn’t overheat (the gauge works! She was showing like 140 there) and there was water in all the lines afterward.Gonna go with antifreeze next time.Oil pressure sender leaked and so did the back of the gauge. I’ve no doubt there’s a very slight incompatibility there between the fittings–British Standard vs NPT. I wrapped them with teflon tape and I’m not sorry about it either. The leaks are gone.Family is coming tomorrow so I probably won’t be back at it until Sunday. Still need to work out how the fan is wired. I emailed Sheils & he’ll probably tell me.Basically we’re down to: Get the wires all properly squared away and put the seats and stuff back in.Then it’s all finish work: sound and heat deadener, plates to cover all the holes I made, carpets and trim cards, etc. Fan shroud, yadda & so forth.edsnova2014-06-27 21:33:37
