Greetings All
Well, after lots of headaches and work, I finally got Eliza Jane to the point where I could take her out for a spin. I still don’t have the headlights, gauges, switches, or the horn hooked up but I have the brake lights and that was good enough for me.
Last Friday afternoon, I gave Eliza Jane a good scrub and shine for the first time in about a year and she shined up like a new penny! I caught my wife looking out the second story window and I could almost hear her asking herself “now what is that man up to now!?” there was about an hour and a half of good sunlight left so I headed out. It was weird to think that I had to be home before the streetlights came on. I haven’t had to do that in about 42 years…And yes, it still stinks! It’s good motivation to get the headlights hooked up.
I headed down to Main Street in Huntington Beach to catch the party for the Van’s surfing world championships. When I arrived, there was a mob of people, vendors, and classic cars. All the bars were hopping and the pier was packed! I joined the parade of cars heading down Main Street all of us doing about 5 MPH. It was so much fun people watching and soaking up the scene! I could hear people oohing and ahhing and snapping pictures with their phones.I even heard one girl say “That car is Sick!” I think that’s a good thing. People who asked what kind of car is it got the answer of 52 MG TD but for those who asked if it’s a kit I responded with “She’s a VW with a candy shell!” Usually good for a laugh!
I then turned onto PCH and headed North for about 10 miles to Seal Beach. Driving up the coast, watching the sun slowly set, the pelicans skimming the water for fish, and the smells of people cooking dinner over the open fire pits, was beyond words! I then cruised Seal Beach’s Main street and then headed back home.
When I walked through the front door, my Wife met me with her hands on her hips and that knowing grin as she asked “Now just where have you been?” I gave her my best guilty look and told her that I was out on a romantic cruise with Eliza Jane.
My dog “Oliver” just gave me the “Finger” and said “OK, FAT BOY! NEXT TIME, THE DOG GOES TOO!”
Enjoy your week and if at all possible, Get out there and DRIVE!
