VW Auto-stick

    I just bought a 70 Beetle convertible for a donor car.I was after the axle beam and the pan so the 1600 motor was a bonus.The car was full of parts and I never gave the trans a look.Turns out is an auto-stick.Now I have been told the engine for the auto-stick will not mate up to the standard trans.I realize the outside stuff is different,but is it true the engine can not be used with the standard?
