August 27, 2012 at 4:50 pm #251314August 27, 2012 at 4:53 pm #251315I like this disty idea. I had a pretty new one lose the center button last year. They don’t make ’em like they used to. Only takes a minute to check.
September 12, 2012 at 3:16 pm #251316It’s alive!
Very hard to believe, but the replacement fuel pump was faulty.I truly believed I had ruled everything else out. So I pulled the “new” pump, cleaned it up. And sent it back to the vendor with a desparate plea to replace it. They did.Installed. Primed the carbs…and it fired right up.I had messed with so much, I basically had to retune the car, reset the carbs, all the “normal” tune-up stuff. But she runs!Next up, install the Pertronix module and coil. I was waiting on that until I had debugged any underlying problems with the car.Then…drive. And drive some more. The tank currently has a mix of new and old gas. I gotta burn all that off. Run a few new tankfulls through the car. And then retune everything again. Now on to the 1965 Plymouth which is still dead. But that is a topic for a different forum!Paul Mossberg

September 12, 2012 at 3:36 pm #251317Yahoo congrats .. a friend had the same problem with a new fuel pump too.. who would’ve guessed..?
September 12, 2012 at 4:01 pm #251318It made no sense, but then it couldn’t be anything else!
Bottom line, fuel was not getting to the carbs. But all the fuel lines are new, the steel line through the tunnel was clear, jets were clear. I would fill the bowls, shoot some starter fluid in and car would run until they were empty.Hopefully, this journey is over!Paul Mossberg

I thought the Plymouth was A-OK? Now what?
Ah nevermind. Drive the TD. Weather’s great these days.
September 12, 2012 at 11:10 pm #251326Plymouth made it about 40 miles, started all over again with the same symptoms.
My retired master mechanic buddy is fearful the cam and crank are out of sync; the timing chain may have jumped a tooth, the distributor drive gear on the tail end of the cam could be worn. More to come on that saga!

Good to here its up and running again.I will be the first to say new parts can go bad.A new pertronics unit on mine with only 20 miles on it.Put the points back in and no issues in 1700 milesSeptember 14, 2012 at 10:11 pm #251329Oh man oh man. I had forgotten how much fun these little cars are to drive.
I had my Duchess flatbedded home this evening. Engine builder wants a few hundred miles on the new 1776 before I take a long highway run.
But I just came back from a quick 25 mile nighttime run through the hills around my home.
I’m a happy camper tonight! 😀
