All good info. Thanks for contributing.
Interested in seeing picks of spare tire mounts, especially on LRs. How the heck do i see the pics in someone’s “profile”?September 9, 2012 at 11:57 am #251779Regarding the spare tire mount:
My “trunk” has a fiberglass spare tire holder built in, but it looks like that space is taken up by the air filter. Do others mount their spare tires on the outside of that cover?September 9, 2012 at 11:54 am #251778That book sounds like a must-have for me, as I’d like to be more knowledgeable about the car.
Right now, I just have flat head screwdriver for adjusting the roof frame (which I have yet to need up. I have not put the side curtains on, but am a little dissappointed to hear that the wings have to be removed to use. I figured that they would just fold in.Thanks for the tip on the gas tank. I am 2 for 2 overflowing it, and figured I just had to slow down!September 8, 2012 at 5:27 pm #251772Thanks!
I have a switch on the dash that turns the fan on, and only one lever on the right, which I am guessing controls the amount of heat. Will be checking it and confirming when the rain stops.September 4, 2012 at 4:10 pm #251549I will try to post some pics soon.
She got delivered Thursday night, just in time for a beautiful 4-day weekend. I couldn’t have asked for better, as we got 4 straight days of gorgeous sunny day. First day back at work today was a lot easier to handle since it’s been pouring all day!September 1, 2012 at 12:59 pm #251546Thanks gang!
It was under the seat, on the tunnel. No troubles registering at all. I think having the previous title (Make: London, Model: Roadster, Year 1985) helped, as-well-as me never saying the word “kit”.The weather has been great, and I just turned my 200th mile (in 2 days)…..THIS THING IS AWESOME!!!August 30, 2012 at 9:29 am #251364Thanks again for the welcome, advice, and words of enthusiasm.
She is supposed to be delivered tonight…so I am sure this day will drag!!I am in Cumberland, but do find myself in Newport often. Looking forward to turning some heads on Thames and America’s Cup!August 29, 2012 at 9:10 am #251359Thanks Gents.
I am hoping that since it is titled as an ’85, and presently registered in another state, that the process will not be TOO bad….but we’ll see on Friday. After talking to the elderly former owners, she seems like she has had recent service, and has been on the road regularly, but I will surely be doing the routine maintenance stuff right away. The fact that these are so easy to work on was a real big draw, but I am fortunate to be friends with a VW guru. He owns a shop that basically just restores/sells old bugs, buses, dune buggies, things, etc. (as well as Porsches, Audis, etc). He will be invaluable, as for the time-being, I havbe no idea what I am looking at, and he will be able to educate me quite a bit.
Regarding the tinkering, or lack thereof, needed: THat’s one of the reasons I got such a well put together one….I can never find anytime to put around the garage anymore. So much so, I actually just sold my motorcycle, which is something I thought I would NEVER do, but I was never riding, and felt she didn’t deserve to be garage-bound. One of the reasons I never rode anymore was that when I did have a free day, I felt bad blowing-off the wife all day, as she wasn’t big into riding. Now, with the LR, we’ll be together, AND as bonus, she is looking forward to taking it to work once in a while.August 29, 2012 at 12:15 am #251354Here I am….the guy that bought that LR that started this thread. I’m sure some of you figured I’d show-up sooner or later!
Car is being delivered Thursday night, and I can’t wait to get her on the road.Seems like many of you know a lot more about “my” ride than I do, so please feel-free to clue me in on the important stuff.I’ll be searching the site, but if anyone wants to answer thre following questions, that’d be great:– Are LR’s built on a custom frame/chassis, or did they use the VW?– If this is a stock LR, what size wheels does it have?– From looking at the pics on eBay, do you think I’ll be able to carry a spare tire in the rear, or is that space taken up my the motor?– Do these use 12v electrical systems?Any common pitfalls I should lookout for? Thanks! -
