The rear spring is full length, not cut in two like most of the kits (on a Ford at least). The headlight mounts are cast aluminum and look tubular. I was under the impression that all Lafers were on a VW chassis, but I may be wrong. I took lots of pictures, but need to figure out how to downsize them and send them. I have the top bows for my…[Read more]

As I said before, the top is a very intricate system of articulated bows. It looks like a real 3 bow system. The hood is glass, and the louvers are dummys as in most kit cars, The only thing that even remotely looks like it might have been identification is a round spot on the firewall tthat is about 2 1/2 inches in diameter that has three sm…[Read more]

It says a 73 Pinto. I also contacted the owner previous to the one I bought it from. He bought it from the original owner who along with his wife is deceased.

Still don’t know what it is, but I now own it! Hopefully I’ll get some pictures taken and post them soon. Drove it home last night (about 50 miles) and other than one headligt lighting up the tops of trees about 20 feet up on the left side of the road everything seemed to work ok.

got the cable and put it on yesterday. All is well, thanks again. I was getting tired of using the tach as a speedo!

Received the repaired speedo from Chuckles. Excellant job of repair. When installing it I found that the speedo cable was broken. I don’t know if the cable helped cause the speedo problem, or if the speedo seized causing the cable problem. MG Magic is sending a new one. I guess that everyone might consider lubing both the speedo and the cabl…[Read more]

I just finished replacing the rocker arm assembly on my car. It did solve my problem. After rereading your posts I realize that the valve spring being compressed was a symptom that mine didn’t have. The good news for some, although apparently unfortunately not you, is that the solution that I was given will work. My car runs fine now. I’m…[Read more]

Could be, but my symptoms were exactly his. A simple compression test will tell him whether or not he needs to pull the engine.

Possibly great news for you! I was talking to my VW guru (Happys VW in New Albany Indiana). He told me that there are washers on either side of the rocker arm. One is wavy and one is solid. If the wavy washer wears out, it allows transverse travel of the rocker arm and it will let the rocker arm move enough to let the pushrod fall out. The…[Read more]

Ironic,, I just had the same problem. The engine was running fine until I shut it off. When I restarted it it would pop. I also found the pushrod off the # 3 cylinder. I reset the valve clearance and It ran beautiful until I shut it off. Same problem although now I can’t een get it out of the driveway. Getting ready to pull the beast!

Sounds good, I don’t need the other gauges, but if I had spares for the speedo I wouldnt need one now. I would be happy to take them all, but you are the seller, and I would rather you set the price.

I have seen these gauges, but the electronics type gauges apparently need a sending unit. Mine is the old cable from the front wheel type which I would prefer to keep. Thanks for the lead, that might be how I need to go.

Dennis Brock replied to the topic steering loosness in the forum VW Based Kits 16 years, 2 months ago
Finally got the steering straightened out. All that it took was new steering couplers and an adjustment oof the steering box. (Of course I had to take off the panel in front of the grill between the front fenders!) Rusty fasteners and bolts that were too long made that a challenge. Driving it almost daily now in decent weather.

Dennis Brock replied to the topic MIGI emblem in the forum VW Based Kits 16 years, 3 months ago
I ended up putting an MG emblem on it. Believe it or not, I got it from Moss Motors cheaper than they were listed on EBAY. I still would like to find a Fiberfab grill emblem if anyone knows of one. Not available from MG Magic.
