Good on you, Dereck.
I have a rear-engined BCW and they’re a lot of fun to tool around in, and a really good base for making a passably realistic looking TD replica.

That’s looking great Bill.
@dennis-p point of clarification: Bill’s is a GT style wheel. “Banjo” wheels have wire spokes that look a bit like banjo strings. Like mine (above) and:
…which is also mine…
Which means I guess I have duelin’ banjos.

edward ericson replied to the topic Values of MGTD Replica's Today? in the forum General Discussion 8 months, 1 week ago
For insurance purposes just get an “agreed value” policy and never think of it again. $10-$15k will more than cover the replacement cost and no insurance agent will blink. Just remember to get plenty of liability in case someone gets hurt. Insurance companies don’t sweat the value of the vehicle, it’s the medical bills they seek to avoid.

Short grill was a MiGi feature but I don’t know if they were molded in like that.
Fog lights are always optional. TD bumpers can also be had.

Those Opel gauges look about right, size-wise.
Love the vinyl cover. That’s how they came stock and it’s a rare look these days.

The replica dashes are all a bit different from the originals, mostly around the steering shaft relief, and also in the gauge holes.
I bought a used real dash for the brass/chrome beads and the door hardware and then replicated it from marine plywood and bits of nice mahogany and maple.
Documented the project here, here, here, here, here, here…[Read more]

Classic MG vs Jag-U-Are battle as in the days of old, (Bo’ness, Red Marley, etc.). Jolly good!

Hey folks some of you know I built a 550 Spyder replica & showed it at Carlisle in 2021. It was a kick to build and it’s a blast to drive but I’m loyal to Bridget, which I had first and which my wife fits in, so the Spyder is listed on Bring a Trailer right now.
Please tell your friends & family to bid early, often and enthusiastically.

Re button: My money’s on that big honker. That’s also a real safety feature for these cars, as it’s easy for all the normie drivers in their monster trucks to fail to see us running along side of them.
Re the tiny five drop oil drip: ignore that. All old VW engines drip a little oil.
The Muir book will suggest some tools to get you going. You…[Read more]

Tiffany! Glad you made it home. Congratulations! 45 minutes is nothing for these cars once they’re set right but—as you’ve learned!—that’s a long way for one that’s been sitting.
How long has this car been sitting, by the way?
Re the red button: all these cars are different from each other, since most of them were built by individuals in the…[Read more]

Hi Tiffany!
Do yourself a favor and leave the mirrors alone until after you get it running and driving.
You’ll need new tires, new brake hoses (the soft ones going to the drums), a flush-out of brake fluid, and probably some engine work before it’s purring.
VW Bugs are easy to drive and basically what everyone learned to drive standard shift…[Read more]

Car looks great Rob.
And, yeah, the website seems to be glitching up. I had the same problem last time I was here and tried to move a pic to a post.
I’ll see if I can get our tech guy involved.

I second the marine upholsterer.
The MG Magic parts are perfect for old CMCs and Fiberfabs, but the BCW is a little different. The front windshield bow is a different design (a block of hardwood), the connection is different—pins from the windshield frame and thumbscrews in the top—and I suspect the dimensions are a little different.
Any goo…[Read more]
