x3. do not cut there.
Look for ways to trim the bottom inside of the seat instead. With a little luck, you’ll fit.

“Reeks,” though, not “wreaks.”
If something reeks, it stinks.
If it stinks bad enough (say, in a fancy restaurant), it might wreak havoc.

Mine is like this too, a little bit. I believe your car is IRS (double-jointed) like mine. Roy is right that the torsion bars are probably a little out of adjustment, and that, in our cars, you can’t get to the caps without unbolting the tub.
I believe that the torsion bar bushings are also the problem. They tend to wear unevenly, and they…[Read more]

Long update on the Spyder work. Here we have the tub, aluminum-clad (mostly). Waiting on rivets now and preparing to travel for Christmas. Happy holidays to all!

If you don’t mind, Bill, I can field this question.
The Accusump is an oil accumulator: when your oil pressure is high, the tank fills up with oil. If or when your oil pressure is low, the Accusump injects oil into the engine, raising the oil pressure.
The idea is to prevent oil starvation, which can happen when you’re pulling a lot of G’s in…[Read more]

Half-inch plate isn’t “reinforcement” Bill. It’s armor.

When I had those symptoms it was carb icing. One of the little heater tubes that come from the exhaust manifold and go to the intake manifold had rotted away. It was hiding behind one of the bigger paper foil heater tubes that run into the fan shroud, so I did not see it for like a season. Eventually I just wrapped it with silver muffler tape and…[Read more]

The Spyder gauges came yesterday. 914 units re-done entirely (and at significant expense) by North Hollywood Speedometer. Purely European spec: 250 kph speedometer, oil temperature reading in Celsius. As is correct for Porsche 550-0051.
I agonized about doing this. The kit came with a new set of 356-style Chinese repops, which fit the pre-cut…[Read more]

Hit me up. I’m not really good with electrics but I am slowly improving. As with the welder, which might could be employed to get those new pans properly affixed.
No reserve, man. I’m free all day on most days, these days.

Oh man…I’d forgot about the Chevette diesel. Late ’70s-early ’80s were dark days.

I went with this little cube one which is designed after the Arnolt heaters retro-fitted to many MG TDs in the day. Not as strong as Bill’s but I’m willing to give up a lot to look “period-correct,” and dudes definitely froze their asses in-period.

Should work. I’d dry-fit as much as I could before doing anything rash.
When I put the Soob in Bridget, the muffler tucked up under that splash pan a bit tighter than the previous exhaust. I lined the underside with reflective insulation made just for that purpose, and it worked beautifully. Key was prepping the unfinished glass underneath and…[Read more]

That engine looks really good. And I know you ol’ boys will make everything fit.
I have only one quibble: absolutely do turn the phone “sideways” when shooting video. Do it before you hit the shutter. Your viewers will thank you.

Well, stuff in the frunk will be visible whenever the front lid is lifted. (Wait till you see what I do with the gas tank!) Stuff under the clam will be very much on display whenever the back deck’s propped-up, which will be most of the time the car is parked in public.
I am hoping that my attention to detail will be rewarded by the car’s…[Read more]

Jack points welded, horn pockets installed, grill connected, air boxes made, etc.
Wish me luck on the steering column (up soon!), since that seems to be something of an Achilles Heel for members of this group.
