Clutch chatter sometimes comes from the wrong Bowden tube. Make sure it dips about an inch, to an inch and a half. Another thing to check is the transmission mounts. If there’s some give in those, replace them. The last common possibility is the disc or pressure plate. If a little oil gets on it or something like that you can get chatter. But…[Read more]

Well, it’s paint day, boys.
Final primer-sealer coat this afternoon followed by the red stuff. Looks a lot better this time around but of course I got a nasty run on the scuttle and gouged out a wet spot with the sprayer. And a couple spots not yet quite covering.
So it goes.
More on the blog.

Following Roy’s sage advice I have been working with No Paint. Just a sponge, a bucket and a sheet of 400.
Seems to be working.
I got the wheels bolted on snug (thanks) and shot some truck bed liner up under the fenders to cover the ‘glass work and (supposedly) prevent star cracking from rocks and such.

Definitely VA Beach this year in Bridget, Roy. And maybe in the Spyder in 2018. I had a German grandmother but the only word she ever taught me was “hundsbutza,” which she told me was dog poop and apparently that isn’t even true.
And great to hear about the Cooperization. I really want to drive that car at least round the block, if you’ll allow…[Read more]

So I bought a new car today.
Had my cousin haul it down from Connecticut.
It is a Thunder Ranch 550 Spyder kit, unbuilt, sans engine. Four wheel discs, wide-fives, cable shifter. Mostly complete.
I plan to build this over the next year or two. I hope to drive it a year or so to work the bugs out and then sell it. (Not selling Bridget).

That looks like a lot of cutting and welding. Will you bolt it to the bucket or weld it?

edward ericson replied to the topic Name your ride? in the forum General Discussion 8 years, 5 months ago
Emma seems like a good one to me. But this is really a personal matter. In my experience, the car suggests the name. I don’t remember thinking about naming Bridget.
Same thing with my mom’s old Nova when i was a kid. The car was called “Bess,” and that was that. My dad’s Nova, basically the same car, did not get a name. And my Nova–also the…[Read more]

Good on ya, Greg. And right, same thing happened when I had the tire guys slap on new tires and align it. Driving home I thought I was gonna die. Car wandered and rode so rough. Checked the tire pressure in the driveway: 36 all around.
Set them at like 16 and 24 and was instantly happy.

Allen: THANK YOU!
Got the front axle nuts today and went out to replace the busted one on Bridget. Can’t thank you enough.

Allen: It’s all dupicolor stuff I bought at Advance Auto. The touch-up spray is an excellent match for this Ford Toreador Red. I also have some red scratch-filler primer.
The “adhesion promoter” is just that. On the rack with the rest of the paint. It’s mainly for painting vinyl or plastic trim pieces, chrome, aluminum, etc. You prep the part by…[Read more]
