I had to look twice to see anything obviously wrong. One thing I noticed is that the front edges of the bonnet sides look like they are straight up/down instead of slanted back about 7 degrees to match the lines on the radiator shroud. Also looks like the passenger door is not quite flush. I’m sure anyone that does meticulous work like that engine…[Read more]

My thoughts on brakes:First of all, I’m going with a V6, so I would not call that high HP. (I’m not using a Buick Grand National V6).When I build a car, I always replace 100% of the brake parts. The capability of the car to stop is mainly a factor of the quality of these parts. The difference in my future car between power brakes and manual brakes…[Read more]

$390 for springs and shocks are more than I have budgeted for those two items. I’ve read a lot of the streams here and have followed this link before. I also read advice here about using a minimum strength spring in the front so I don’t plan on using the stock ones. For ride height, I can weld the crossmember at any height so I wasn’t planning…[Read more]

Ayready under “My Project” is Alfred, my CMC MG, originally a Chevette based kit, but being stubborn and willing to take on big projects, I decided to do a Mustang II based build.https://tdreplica.com/forums/topic/building-alfred/PMOSSBERG2012-12-08 17:49:50

The infamous Mustang II crossmember. I can personally verify that it’s popularity has nothing to do with it’s ease of removal. It was truly a PITA to cut it out of the donor and then to cut and grind off the unibody frame pieces out of the crossmember. However, I am taking advantage of it’s other reasons for popularity: a good working geometry and…[Read more]

Planning to attend Carlisle..Engine: Presently planning to use a 60 degree V6: Ford 2.8, 2.9 or 4.0 fit this and so does the Chevy 2.8/3.4. The choice of engine can be delayed for a while. I will definitely use a stock Mustang II front and rear suspension, already bought and stripped a donor car for those parts.

This shot show the poor fit of the hood to the sides. When the gap on the right side is pulled closed, the gap on the left side between hod and side panel is about 1/2 inch. I will have to extend the hood side to make this fit. Also, the hood seems to have been taken out of the mold to soon and has lost a lot of it’s curve. I had to glass in an…[Read more]

The body, as other owners of FF/CMC know, is a double walled top body that loosely fits into a bottom shell that fits between the two top shells. Kinda like an upside down tupperware bowl that is too small for the lid. I don’t like this sloppy fit and am going to recut the bottom shell so it fits the top inner shell exactly. I will then glass…[Read more]

Wow, that’s a 560 pound window. Thanks guys. Reason I asked was to get an idea of what spring rate to shoot for.

Anyone out there know how much a Ford based Fiberfab/CMC MG weighs? Even a Chevy based vehicle would be a good approximation? How about weight distribution? Is 55/45% a good guess?

Thanks. I think there’s a guy up in York PA trying to sell a 2.8 with bellhousing. I also will need proper flywheel.

I’ve committed to Mustang II this week and bought a 1976 2300/4 speed parts car, but do not plan on using the engine. Does anyone know if the 2300 4 speed and bellhousing will fit on a 2800 V6?

I don’t like the idea of just one bar on each side, since it doesn’t make the rear maintain a constant angle.I like this as a possible 4 link.http://www.welderseries.com/blog/online-store/rear-four-link-kit-parallel-universal/It already has mounting points for coil-overs and I would need to add a panhard somehow. Best part is that it’s adjustable,…[Read more]

I just discovered the Fiberfab Pinto manual in the download section. This looks like the Pinto/Mustang II version of the same kit that I have. It looks pretty much like what I want to do with this kit. However when I got to what they did with the rear suspension, I don’t think it looks like it would perform like the sports car feel that I want.…[Read more]

I’m going to scrap the whole front of the Chevette frame. It’s way too clumsy and has about three times the metal as it needs. The Mustang only needs a pair of frame arms 24″ inside width. Much simpler. I’ll post some pictures when I start the build stream.

I have a neighbor who scratch builds cars. He suggested a Mercruiser 3 liter four banger. Stock at 140 hp. Problem with that one is that there are no intakes or exhaust manifolds. You have to build it yourself. On the positive side, it has the typical Chevy transmission bolt spacing. I also considered an MGB as a donor. Positive: Lots of…[Read more]

It should have been spelled El Scorcho (the name on it before I bought it) , but the one thing you cannot change in a stream is the original title.
