KentT replied to the topic Grill shell for sale in the forum General Discussion 11 years, 9 months ago
I bought an old OEM shell off eBay and trimmed it to fit my early FF, per the instructions in the build manual in the download section (and Ed’s pics/suggestions). Only a small rib remains below where the splashpan fits, just to cover the “frame” of the grille. The area below the grille opening, where the hole for the manual crank, was also t…[Read more]

I know the BCW will fit a towbar — I’ve seen it on one… So, there’s other ways than trailering it to get it to Carlisle… 🙂
But, I agree that driving it that distance is likely not a good plan… -

There is likely a set screw on the bottom of the bezel ring…
Since there are so many different variations of these aftermarket lights, it’s hard to tell without being able to see them… -

Bill, are these parts that you are selling? If so, could you send me a pic of the Dash Board?
If not, who do I contact? -
KentT replied to the topic Splash Pan Fit in the forum VW Based Kits 11 years, 10 months ago
Mine is an early Fiberfab and the splashpan also does not reach the back of the tub. I’ll likely use a piece of aluminum to bridge the gap, when I also try to modify the splashpan to fit the engine tin at the rear of the car. My splashpan has angular sides and does not match the curve of the VW engine tin at all…

A couple snow flurries last week, but no accumulation. I AM getting snowed under by spring projects around the farmstead that’s consuming all my time, instead of my TDr… 🙁

X3 on the alternator. Make sure you hook it up correctly – many of the alternators are internally regulated, and you need to remove the voltage regulator from the circuit — but I’m sure you likely knew that! -
KentT replied to the topic spin on filter in the forum General Discussion 11 years, 10 months ago
I far prefer the filter-pump approach, which does not require oil lines outside the crankcase. I once blew an engine on a VW bus when an oil line burst. By the time I could react to the sudden oil pressure light and gauge falling, the engine spun a main bearing and seized….
IMO, if you use a remote filter mount use ONLY high-quality bra… -

Mike, the price is for a pair. I don’t know the size of the Lucky taillights. In an earlier topic on here about LEDs, I posted the measurements in response to a question from Paul, but I can’t find that post with the Search function…

KentT replied to the topic VW turn signal lever/steering column in the forum VW Based Kits 11 years, 11 months ago
If it is the older style steering column without the ignition key and lock, the whole turn signal assembly can be loosened and slid up and down the column, unless I’m mistaken.
It’s been a long time, but that’s what I recall… Look for a set screw on the side opposite the turn signal lever…The assembly has to be close enough to the steering w… -

Figured it was something similar…
BTW, if you’re having problems holding the split cam bearings in the top half of the case, I’ve found that a bit of old-school STP or Motor Honey works better than assembly lube. Wipe a small amount on the backside of the bearing to hold it onto the journals, then put assembly lube on cam… It’s sticky like… -

I agree with your diagnosis — that you didn’t want to be the true… 🙂
I think it’s time to split the case and check the bearings…Check to make sure that all bearing retaining pins are firmly seated also. -

I understand, Montie — if you can get 24 advance orders, and all the sizes are right, and if you don’t get stuck with a bunch that don’t sell, don’t fit, etc….
That is THE big advantage of “on demand” — there’s never any extras, there’s no minimum buy, and if someone ends up with the wrong size, it is between them and the seller, etc.No one… - Load More
