This guy can likely repair it for you. I had him restore/rebuild the gauges for my planned dashboard.https://m.facebook.com/NorthGeorgiaSpeedometerKentT2016-01-12 09:00:43

A Porsche 914 electronic tach is identical in size to the VW speedo. I got mine on eBay 2 years ago for  under $100. There’s one in a derelict 914 in the Miramar Auto Hobby shop, Ray might sell it.

And if you want more of the “old school” look, a guy on the Samba sells face decals for the 914 tach to match the older VW…[Read more]

These narrow Roadsters don’t have nearly as tall of sides as their other, larger seats. But, they’re plenty tall enough to keep your butt from sliding around. They don’t have a whole lot of foam padding, but they seem to be quite comfortable since the seat and back surfaces are suspended from the tubular frame. Luckily I have narrow hips, so…[Read more]

Took a bit of time off from building shelves and pegboard panels (had built a couple workbenches earlier)…To unbox these, remove the old seats, and do a quick test fit:At 19″ wide, 26″ deep, and 31″ tall these PRP Roadster suspension racing seats will fit in there nicely. They’re sitting on universal bases from Speedway Motors. These universal…[Read more]

  • C20 – I have no direct experience with it, though I’ve run the slightly more aggressive C25. It looks similar to the Engle W100. Mild, shorter duration, with slightly better lift than stock. Should be a good torque producer at low-medium RPMs. Interestingly, it would be a good candidate for 1.25 rockers also, especially since you went with the…[Read more]

I can feel your pain – I had to take over a year off from my project to build a garage, and have also endured disenregrating tarps and car cover, and wet/damp floorboards. At least I wasn’t paying rent all the while. About finished with shelves, tool stands and workbenches, so I’ll be able to get back to it in a few days…

  • Good point, Ed. I’d suggest dual 36 singles for Jacks 1641 then. Kadrons are wider than Webers, and are very tight in a Bug, but fit well in a KG or Bus. I have no idea how they’d fit his BCW.The only real knock on the 36s is that they didn’t use separate bronze/brass bushings on the butterfly shafts so the casting would wear and start leaking…[Read more]

I ran 1.25s on a stock dual port once, with an extractor exhaust and 30 PICT carb with adjustable main jet (too bad those neat adjustable main jets are no longer available!). There was a noticeable, though not huge difference in the “seat of the pants” dyno. With your other mods/tweaks, your engine should be set to take advantage of improved…[Read more]

  • I’m running dual 40mm Empi HPMX carbs (Weber clones) on CB Performance narrow-mount manifolds (and linkage) and a 36 HP-style doghouse fan shroud (with heat outlets) to move them closer together to fit under the engine cover. You may or may not have interference issues with the heater air tube outlets on a stock fan shroud. The 36HP style shroud…[Read more]

  • Don’t think the progressive intake will work – the carb is oriented with the barrels front to rear. The Bug Spray barrels sit side by side. It also appears to have a plenum between the two barrels. You don’t want that on a street driven Bug Spray – you’f likely have a boggy low end that you can’t tune out… A plenum under a 2 barrel gives…[Read more]

I thought Daytona had the shorter grille – I’m still learning the differences between kits.My early FF grille is the same height as a real TD, from what I remember from modifying and fitting mine over the molded nose.

  • Yay! Love hearing success stories! Building a stock/mild VW engine requires more patience and attention to detail than outright technical skill! (A stroker that requires shimming jugs, cutting pushrods, and setting valve geometry is far more complicated.)I think you’ll end up enjoying Emma more with a more tractable engine! Great job!Envious of…[Read more]

Does the Daytona have the exposed steering shaft like the early FF?

That’s an understatement! Just so much wrong on this one….

  • No problem!I also have a lot of slate rock to deal with. The garage is built on several major veins that were at surface level. Outcroppings in my gravel driveway determined the final grade of the slab, to go 4″ above them. I couldn’t have put an oil change pit under the garage bays without blasting or jackhammering a hole. We simply notched out a…[Read more]

  • Garage still isn’t complete – still need mre gravel, and I’m just now mounting pegboard, mounting shelves, etc. But, today was a major milestone, as I finally got my air compressor and toolboxes moved in. I’ll work around things as I must, but wanted to get them in before the weather turns bad.

  • Built on a 1980 Bug, and has a 2 liter engine?Last standard Beetle imported was a 1973, I think. Last Super Beetle was a 1979 Convertible. The last few years only convertibles were imported. That has to be build date, kit mfg date, initial registration/titling date, or something else…That’s likely a Type 3 (square back/fastback) engine block…[Read more]
