That will be quite the trip. You will see many beautiful places across the country and meet some great and interesting people
Best wishes
March 7, 2015 at 10:29 pm #263605I have watched a bunch of videos. I think I have a lead on an older man who used to do it at a machine shop.
March 7, 2015 at 9:35 pm #263594most definitely a good looking car
March 6, 2015 at 9:28 am #263533I have found a couple pull switches that are supposed to be momentary contacts that are more like our dash pull switches
Cole Hersee M486 Pull-Type Momentary Switch
March 5, 2015 at 9:42 pm #263529It is typical that a starter switch is always hot. I was told that it was so the the max amps goes to the starter.
But you have to have the key turned on to get electricity to the coil. Otherwise no spark so no start.
That is kind of a bad design today because people crank the starter with the key off and wear down the battery. Especially if you have a 6 volt car.
I have learned this several time with my two model A fords. I have done it. People trying to help have done it.
If the12 volt battery is strong enough and the engine easy to start, as in a modern car with a lighter engine (vw) you should be able to wire it through the “on” position on the keyed ignition. That way no run down battery. That would be my plan.
I am waiting for an email from moss on the starter (behind the dash size). A pull starter would be cool.
March 5, 2015 at 6:38 pm #263525I went on to Moss motors to look at one. It is an unusual shape. The part behind the dash. I wounder How big it is?. It size might cause problems with it installation.
On our TDr it is amazing how room is up ther comapred to a normal car. Normal cars have so much crammed up under their dash.
March 5, 2015 at 3:34 pm #263521A pull starter. That’s cool. My antique ford have push starters. Was an original MG TD 6 or 12 volts?
March 4, 2015 at 11:00 pm #263517Opps I forgot that one
or if you are a fan of Jack Lemon in the Great Race you could say
“Push the Button Max”
March 1, 2015 at 9:48 pm #263445Having had antique cars with generators, I appreciate a modern alternator.
when the gen went out on my MGTDr I put in an alternator. It only took about an hour. There are some good videos on you tube if you want to do it yourself.
March 1, 2015 at 6:21 pm #263431I am not very good at these MGTDr cars yet. I didn’t even notice the fold down wind screen. That is so awesome. Break out the aviator goggles.
The rear tail light I put on has the licenses plate light. The original Model A fords had one tail light with the license plate mounted beneath the light. It was light through a clear glass lens at the bottom.
The tail light has two bulbs one does the tail light/license plate. The other bulb does the stop light
If you order a light for the left side of the car you should get one with the license plate light. The plan for this week it to paint the licence plate holder black, replace all the bolts with stainless steel. Heat shrink tube all the exposed wire so they look better and are protected. Hopefully reinstall for required Saturday drive.
February 28, 2015 at 11:14 pm #263425Wow the body looks great on your car. Did you have to do any repair work. I have some gel issues. Maybe next fall and winter I will get mine repainted
I just got it the light on Ebay. Its stainless steel so that is nice. I used the existing license plate light bracket. It took a couple of hours of modification. Just drill press and file work. The stop light actually says “Stop”. You can read it in real life. I don’t know if that is good. Someone might run into me trying to read “Stop” while chatting on their cell phone.
February 28, 2015 at 9:36 pm #263422Here is what it looks like at night. It is quite bright.
I wasn’t sure how it would turn out putting a Chinese made replacement part for an antique American Ford on a modern car made in America based on a British made car sitting on top of a German design chassis made in Mexico.
February 26, 2015 at 9:40 am #263360That would be awesome. The better the template the better the results.
I have pm’ed you
Thanks

February 22, 2015 at 11:32 pm #262448I put a Dorman set in my MGTDr. I bought it from Amazon.
I put them only on the seat not the back.
I did not know how well they would work and since the seats fold forward I wasn’t sure if it would be a problem. Also since normally if it cold you wear a jacket that would insulate you from the heater.
They work great. It was an easy install. In fact on high it gets a little too warm. My wife appreciates the seat heater a lot.
February 22, 2015 at 4:41 pm #263100I drove my MGTDr today
12 degrees on the way to church
A sweltering 30 degrees on the way home.
Not too bad due to the following…
A well functioning VW heater
Electric seat heater
A nice lap blanket made by the sweet wife
Winter coat, gloves, muffler and driving cap. -
