Repeat: you do not need wider tires to go straight faster, more smoothly and with greater precision. Wider tires help in doing all these things while going around corners. Going straight requires (along with good ball joints, tie rod ends, etc) more positive caster. That is all.

Jack! Put new 165/15s on it. Also install a set of caster shims. They cost about $10. Put them on the Lowe beam, between the beam and the frame head. Then have the car aligned with 1/8 toe in and about 1 degree of negative camber. If it still wanders put a second set of caster shims in, and spring for the long bolt kit.

Mary. I hope we can meet you in Carlisle in a month or so.
I believe your starting problem may be battery related. How old is yours? I like using a deep cycle boat battery, as they last longer, but still every five or six years you tend to need a new one.As for grounds–they corrode. Usually, cleaning the old chassis ground when you clean the… -

Paint is expensive & the modern urethane and epoxy mixes are very good, fast-drying and a bit tricky to work with. All car paint shops shoot almost exclusively urethane now, I am told. No one messes with acrylics or lacquer.Â
Prep is still what it ever was, which is mostly labor. The Speedster guys had a paint thread a few weeks back and $5,000… -

Every light needs power and ground.Power through the switch, usually. (Horn and some indicator lights excepted)Big power draws ought to go through relays.Almost every + wire ought to be fused.Once you have the starter, coil, and generator/ alternator hooked up (gen has the key indicator light that makes it work), then everything else is as above,…[Read more]

A lot of the Speedster guys got low numbers as well. Sounds like it’d be a chore to line up the whole group numerically but it might be cool.

WOW! That does look purposeful.
Rule is the top of the helmet plus X inches, right? 3-4-5 inches? Whatever “X” is this should pass inspection. Which means you’re now a hillclimber!Congrats, dude!Three questions: 1. how long does it take you to take it off?2. How compact does it stow?3. What’s it weigh? -

edward ericson replied to the topic Where the heck did my new master cylinder go? in the forum VW Based Kits 10 years, 3 months ago
Ordered: New German MC, new inner and outer wheel bearings for the disks (they don’t appear to be in the kit and I don’t want to have to knock them out of the old drum setup) and four new front ball joints for when I can find someone with a good press who isn’t a hammerhead.Â
