If you can find the stock type hubcaps (left, above) with a smooth finish in the center instead of a VW or EMPI emboss, get those. you drill the hole and the Moss MG TD hubcap emblem fits nicely, secured with just a cotter pin.
I like the smoothies just as much though, and they are arguably a little closer in shape to the original TD hubcap than… -

Bwaaah!
I don’t know how to answer that one, Roy. I’d frankly rather NOT have to take the body off the pan and rebuild or replace the chassis! But after that? Well…I do have some “roll bar” to integrate if I ever hope to keep up with Bill.Might go for the 4 x 4.5 wheel bolt pattern–I know you know what that entails. If I could find a set of… -

OK: update and clarifications, clarifications first: 1. That part did not fall out. I had to cut and grind it for a couple hours. It’s rusty, but not THAT rusty! 2. I am going to replace that pan piece only, hopefully by next week. I know darn well I ought to take the body off the pan and replace every damn bit of rusty metal that’s on the car,…[Read more]

To a lot of people, anything with an upright radiator and fenders that swoop into running boards is a Model A Ford is an “antique car.”

Marilou! So sorry for your trouble. You’d think after dumping $900 in it . . .
But the guys are right: These old babies usually need a little TLC to get them back into fighting form. The very good news is, it’s not going to cost you anything like another $900 to get going. Maybe not even $90. Don’t lose heart. This is normal, and it will… -

Just getting to Bridget now after my “detour” with the truck. Lot of work to do before Carlisle. But doable.

“It’s a British Coach Works Model 52 MG TD replica built in 1980 on a 1969 Beetle chassis with a 1966 Beetle engine. But now it has a Subaru engine from a 1995 Legacy station wagon, and so . . .”.
Man, most people will be sorry they asked! 😆 -

What is really interesting is the idea that someone, somewhere, would consider buying a kit car as an “investment.”
(But not understand–somehow–that asking prices aren’t necessarily selling prices).Good find, John. -

If you look at a TD the back wheels are a little forward of center. But that car for sale has them too far.

I’m itching to get to work on Bridget. Took her for a spin ’round the block after getting the truck all squared away this afternoon. Felt good to be on the road. Dusty though. And a lot to do: new lower frame head. Disc brakes. Beam stiffeners, bigger sway bars and new front shocks.
Plus whatever else crops up. She’s dripping oil on the cat, which… -

Aaaand done. Here’s the final blog post on it.
I ran out of paint so I only did half the bumper. The clear coat started dripping on the hood about halfway through the spray, so that looks like ass. But still–it’s painted. It matches too. Still missing the trim piece that goes in the center of the grill, but that’s like $30 and so I think I’ll do… -
