I would say that rather than “delete” the topic that we just “unstick” it so that it drifts down into the history with other old topics.I don’t prefer to delete things, it’s just a personality quirk.

I cannot duplicate the topic creation problem on the site or on a backup (development) version of the site. Interested if this continues to happen and any more details on where if fails.

Good news. I just found and fixed the “Watch this Topic” problem. If you uncheck “email notify me of replies” just above the post reply button when replying it does not generate the error any longer. You can also change it in your member settings control panel.
