Looks great Roy! I am not tired of hearing the details and am glad for you that you found the solution. Even though I do not plan to install wires on mine I have been very interested from the start.P.S.  I really like the red drums peeking through the wires.Thumbs Up

Laughing here Roy. Didnt mean to jump the gun, but was a little excited for you. Heck if it was old Detroit iron you could throw on some shackles and run G50s on her. Hard to adapt that concept to a VW.

Roy,what route did you go to attache the adapters to the drums? We need some photos here. I and I am sure many others have been following this project for awhile. However you worked this out ,I am glad you are reaching your goal.

  • I think we all have been distracted from the original post about a BCW by a long legged girl!

  • I cant count the times I have been “distracted” by a long legged girl.:D

  • My thoughts and prayers are with you Dan. Keep your faith.

  • Allen , dont have them on my 74. I used a cheap oil filled shock.I bought them from JC Whitney a few years back. They work fine. This was before I learned there are much better places to get Beetle parts than Whitney.Mike N Scarlett2012-06-03 12:43:46

Allen you run two relays. One for low beam and one for high beam.Fuse both relays individual. The below diagram shows two 4 pin automotive relays. I used 5 pin dual 87 Not (87 and 87A) this allowed me to run the voltage to the lights with independent legs rather than splice the two headlight wires together and saving very little wire.. The…[Read more]

I am not sure I needed the H6024s Ed. The sealed beams I had were in my car when I bought it almost 8 years ago. I had ordered 6014s from Speedway motors and they sent the H6024s. either they made a mistake or were out of the 6014s. Gave about $7.00 each plus shipping. I also ordered and installed the braided stainless headlight conduit to clean…[Read more]

It made a world of difference Roy. Im in Ar. Not Az. Arkansas. Not only do we have Deer and Bear , there has been a Sasquatch sighting or two and I am pretty sure Elvis was seen cruising the local Sonic drive in.

Roy I hope the drawing helps. It is very hard to mate two parts with a 3rd part when a 4th part (tire) is causing iinterference and you cant get a visual. Studs will work great on the AA as you called it. They can be as simple as tapping the AA, screwing in threaded rod, loctite and welded on back side (drum side) and ground flush. If you have…[Read more]

Drawing sent Roy. It is hard to do this long distance, but i am sure something will work.

Roy,sorry to hear that at every turn on this project something else pops up. The only advise I can think of at the moment is to quote a line from the movie The Outlaw Jose Wales “Endeavor to Peserevere”I did not realize that Schu had installed studs in a drum with success. You had mentioned you had 10mm iron thickness which is just a tad over 3/8…[Read more]

Allen I didnt build my kit, but in the shop where I work I have seen hole saws used to cut steel plate up to 1/2″. I am not saying yours wont, but most  hole saws that come in kits should be used for wood or aluminum. I would get a single saw like Paul suggested. A good place to get a quality hole saw would be some bolt and screw supply house…[Read more]

  • Ed on The Samba the general consensus is as long as you maintain 10psi per 1000 rpm on a warm engine everything is ok. You seem to be doing a little better than that so i think you’re are good here. If it drops any lower than the 10psi per 1000 it may be time for a new oil pump. How was the pressure per rpm before you had the drop? What was your…[Read more]

Thanks for all the input guys. Roy I like your comment. I have danced with the same girl for 35 years and I dont ever plan on dancing with another. On a side note I got my car up on jack stands today to scrutinize  the situation. It appears there is only rust through in one area  on the side of the frame head and if true would only require a s…[Read more]

To be honest Ed thats what Im thinking too. Starting from scratch would pose more problems than taking care of the chassis I have now. Even if I need a new frame head(speculation here), I have people , a place and the tools to get it done. Last , but not least I have the help of the good people on this forum for advice..

Paul it sounds like he may have used the saco unit http://www.sacoperformance.com/proddetail.php?prod=32-1001  . The master goes into the tunnel by way of an access hole cut on  the passenger side and mounts with the two bolts on the peddle cluster. What do you think about buying the chassis? Would it be worth all the work to set up versus if I h…[Read more]
