That is correct. Have to pull “Media” down from under Howdy newkitman and select either Albums, Photos or Videos.

I’ll chime in here as, like Ed, I have an Apple computer. Paul and Ed. I never thought of looking at a pulldown menu under “Howdy newkitman” and that is what has been giving me problems. Not complaining…just an elderly guy learning a new computer system (Apple) and a new club software. I’ll get it though. We’re a good club and we’ll figure all…[Read more]

I used what johnsimion suggested…Cowles Custom Chrome Flexible Interior/Exterior Molding, 1/8-inch wide, 20ft roll. I purchased it on the O’Reilly’s web site because the local stores were out. And we have three stores local. It must be a popular trim. Another hobby of mine is building wooden model sailing ships (like the Santa Maria, Half Moon,…[Read more]

I remember when I had my Ford Pinto, yes I ownef a fatigue green early 70s Pinto, it cad a rubbing strip on the calipers. When the pads worn down to minimum level the strip would contact the rotorand squeel lo ike a pig. That was time to change the brake pads and turn the rotors.

Except for installing the two oil gauges (temp and pressure) and wiring the gauges up, here’s how the dash turned out. Hope these two photos come through.
Well they didn’t come out. Photos can be seen at http://www.fotki.com/Allen1209 under MGTD build.

newkitman replied to the topic Tire sizes in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 7 months ago
My rims are stock, steel, 4-lug, 15 inch rims with a 5.5 offset. The only marking on the 4 rims is the letter T. All 4 are from JBugs in Calif. According to their web site (jbugs.com), this translates to a 4-5/16 inch offset. The tire should fit in the center of the fender openings. (I hope).

TheSamba site talks about this in there forums and they mentioned the MC sometimes leaking into the inside of the tunnel. One would never notice it unless it leaked out the hole in the bottom tunnel plate and that would drip on the road while driving. My dual brake MC is leaking at the top where the two hoses from the reservoir connect. I’m…[Read more]

I used Minwax oil based stain. After staining yesterday afternoon, I felt the instrument cluster got sort of lost in the main dash. I wanted it to stand out a little more. So I took one of the remaining two clusters (I usually make three just in case) and on the rear face applied three different stain colors. They are Minwax Gunstock, Minwax…[Read more]

I am making my dash and center instrument cluster. The dash is cut and stained with two coats of stain and the center instrument cluster is cut and stained with three coats. This morning I applied the first coat of polyurethane and let it dry. Went out at 5PM to put the pieces in the shed overnight and noticed that the polyurethane 0n the left…[Read more]

Spent the weekend in FL at the Pasco County FL Bug Jam in Dade City, FL. 625 VWs of all types and conditions. Only saw one TDr, a white one. Had several other kit cars including an Apha Romeo. And it was packed…over 5,000 folks in attendance. I got a free beer for being a Vet and scored some needed parts. Found a guy who cuts VW key blanks.…[Read more]

Rick. The gas tank liner is an item used mainly to prevent any fuel from leaking into the passenger compartment. If you have a SMALL dripping type leak, the liner will contain the fuel and you can soak/clean it up and make the repair.

Copterpilot. Check the Library Pulldown Menu on the top right. Select Manuals and that will take you to the assembly manuals. The London Roadster is the 4th one down.

With my CMC/Fiberfab kit there is a gas tank liner that fits into the body tub. If its a Fiberfab ONLY kit it’ll probably fit down in there nice and snug. However, if its a CMC/Fiberfab kit the gas tank liner won’t fit down into place all the way. You’ll have to do some fiberglass work to make everything fit. My VW gas tank fits in the liner…[Read more]

My kit is a CMC/Fiberfab and unlike most MIGIs, the front of my two front fenders come together in front of the grille. MIGIs have a piece that covers the fenders in front of the grille.

newkitman replied to the topic Cooling question in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 8 months ago
Installing a temp gauge was fairly straight forward to me. Mount the gauge, wire the gauge power and gauge light and then run the wire from the gauge to the temp sender on the engine which was probably the hardest part of the whole thing. My 02 cents worth.

newkitman replied to the topic Cooling question in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 8 months ago
I discussed the cooling slots around the spare tire quite a bit ago with Paul and although the builder is instructed to do this in the assembly manual, it isn’t that necessary. And the reason for the slots is to let heat out not let cooling air in. I do not have the slots cut into mine.

John. Loved the photos. I really like the look of the wide whitewalls. Plus I like the windshield post end caps as well. Excellent workmanship.

Thanks for sending this, but mine is a London Roadster. Apparently there is little documentation. Sigh
