  • Well then you see I would have the predicament of having to drive around in the rain with no top! Not that that is a big deal since I can’t drive her right now since she’s leaking 2 of the 3 fluids she carries 😕 (oil and gas)

Anyways, then I would have to pioneer a fiberglass top! And it seems like a much better idea to let you have the fun!
  • I get the feeling that this is going to be a good thread!

I have a fiberglass top that came with my TDr when I purchased her, but it does not fit quite right on the body and the door panels definitely don’t fit. Maybe when I get around to fixing mine you will be done so I can steal a few of your ideas!
Best of luck and don’t forget to ponder about…

  • I did what Bill said. Put a splitter on both L&R wires before they went through the firewall and ran one to the indicator one to the blinkers.

  • So this may be a little bit off topic of the original post but I see that the topic is now to adapters. Seeing all the posts about 3 to 5 hole adaptors doesn’t make sense to me as my steering column has 5 holes already. And it doesn’t seem like an adaptor, unless these work differently than I think.

And with the current “adaptor” I have the…

Well so much for “finished this weekend” ha! These quick little projects always seem to take forever! For some reason one of the coats of clear coat must’ve dried funny so now I need to sand it down a little and put on a few more layers, then clean up the instrument holes seeing as how they got clear coat in them and don’t fit any of the gauges…[Read more]

Yeah, I have yet to find any also, most of it seems to be the same size as the body beading.

  • Thanks for the input! And that is a beautiful dash!

I’ve somewhat decided on the layout for my new dash and started making it but I do not have the chrome center cluster as seen on TDs. I was wondering if anyone who does have one would be willing to trace it onto some paper and send it to me so I can make one? I can’t just buy a replica or original…[Read more]

  • Oi! That’s expensive! Haha, looks like a nice one though. For now I’ll keep the old frame and start saving for a new one.

Yeah, its a 70/71 VW donor. And I would assume that new arms would be relatively easy to find for a VW. I’ll call around town and see if there are any local, otherwise I’ll get some off the interwebs.
  • Derek replied to the topic Canvas top? in the forum VW Based Kits 11 years, 6 months ago

That is what I was thinking but each of them are cut up into 3 or so pieces and I cannot figure out which order everything goes in.

Also does the canvas attach to the front or back bow? There is a channel on the underside of the canvas that one of the bows used to go through but unsure as to which one goes where?

    Again pictures of an assembled…

  • Ok, Ill look into those two brands. And you guys must have a proper dash board, mine only has 3 “ometers” in the middle with no frame around them. I will be getting a chunk of mahogany soon and making a new one though so does anyone know of any diagrams for layout of instruments and switches etc?

  • Thanks Paul.

The rubber is a good idea, but then it seems like there would be a gap between the fender and the bottom of the grille/front splash piece.
I was originally thinking of cutting out around the steering column and box then making a mould of the box in fiberglass, this way the fiberglass grille piece sits flat on top of the fender.
    Thoughts on this?

Reading through this I feel kinda lucky to have a nice set of seat springs (bucket bottoms with bench back) that I can get upholstered and put in my MG eventually. 😀

  • Did that image work? It doesn’t appear on my iPad.

  • So I read through that forum a bit and I believe I have a Daytona Migi with the separate panel in front of the fenders that bolts on.

I don’t know if you can see very well in this picture but it is lifted on the left side of the car. And as you said the hole cut in the body panel is sloppy but that will be no problem to clean up.

Hi, and welcome!  Even though these TDrs are relatively electrically trouble free, they all seem to come with a fair share of electrical problems.  Not to worry, once fixed, they stay that way, unlike the Lucas equipped originals.
